Both NYT and WaPo took the same dishonest approach: skip how it was done without Congress or public feedback, skip how it's funded illegally with private money, then also dodge the merits of the Epstein ballroom itself by framing the issue around the strawman 'can the White House ever be renovated?'
I can’t believe there are not one but two articles, in major papers, with this dumb framing. It is not NIMBY to express dismay when a big part of the White House is suddenly rubbled
I’m reading the Slow Horses books so I’m saving the series until I’m done. The books are so good and I’ve watched part of the first season. It’s so good!!

Sam's Club is part of Wal-Mart and Wal-Mart workers are among the largest recipients of SNAP in this country. Apparently, some Wal-Marts will help employees fill out SNAP applications as part of their HR paperwork. When people start going hungry on Nov 1 part of the reason is companies underpay them
Is Sam's Club better than Costco?

ordinary americans are filming ice agents and trying to save their neighbors. for all the hemming and hawing during 2024 about how democracy was an elite concern, the elites gave up far more quickly than average people.
How the eff is it only 1:30 on a Friday. This day is never going to effing end.
Thank you! I will say - when my husband has Covid and I did the antihistamine protocol I didn’t catch it.
Have just been informed I've been exposed to Covid, so I'm doing @rahaeli.bsky.social 's pepcid/zyrtec protocol in the desperate hopes I don't get it. Wonder if I can give the 11yo pepcid.

Which is why it is so frustrating that "leaders" with our cellphone and email address do little more than tell us to donate and vote. People are yearning for guidance.
A lot of people are pretty freaked out by the current political state of affairs and carrying on because they don't know what else to do, except out one foot in front of the other.

And I think a lot of Very Online folks mistake that for "normie" indifference

You may not remember this because your brain isn’t as poisoned as mine but during the first term there was reporting on how trump called the wh a “dump” to like his rich golf buddies or w/e and he angrily denied he’d said that and now he’s demolishing large parts of the WH because he thinks it sucks

Faculty have more in common with students than administrators but they think they have more in common with administrators than students
That U.S. academics didn't collectively develop strong labor consciousness is really going to bite them in the ass as universities bend the knee to this administration. Politely worded letters to presidents and trustees are not going to count for much of anything.

Women told WBUR that at first, they assumed the company’s higher ups would do everything they could to find who planted the camera. But six years and one lawsuit later, they said they feel John Hancock may have been more interested in protecting the company than finding the perpetrator.

We have done a pretty good job unlearning “individual responsibility” propaganda re:climate change and stopped shaming each other for personal choices

But we haven’t realized this propaganda is used by every massive evil industry trying to distract us from trying to tear down their institutions.
I think it’s good and important to spread the word about companies that are doing bad things and offer people alternatives to those companies that aren’t evil. I also think shouting “cancel that!” “Stop using that!” “Why are you still on that!” isn’t a great way to help ease people’s transitions.
Our first house just went up on the market and we’ve been studying the photos to see what changes the owners made since we moved out nine years ago.
People who think the MAGA faithful give a shit about the destruction of the East Wing are in for a rude surprise. One of them just informed me “Obama built a basketball court & Biden used tents to entertain outside at tax payer expense. The WH needs the space.” Just unreal.

Trump demolishing the East Wing of the White House to build the Jeffrey Epstein Memorial Ballroom is a bigger priority to him than doing anything to help the American people, including re-opening our fucking government.
Leavitt: At this moment in time, the ballroom is really the president's main priority.

-- all of which means that we may launch a war with a sovereign nation (assuming we haven't already with the strikes on their boats) b/c the Secretary of State, out of personal and political animus towards its leader, successfully manipulated the President into believing a lie.

“We will rebuild the White House as it was and pay for it by seizing assets from Trump, the Trump Organization, and his family.”
None of this is legal! People are choosing to break the law! Other people are choosing not to hold them accountable! What the fuck!!!

"Nearly half of recruits couldn’t pass an open-book written exam"

The dream of the current administration right here.
NBC News finds that:
-- ICE has shortened its training from 13 weeks to six.
-- Nearly half of recruits couldn’t pass an open-book written exam.
-- Recruits "are supposed to attest" they can pass the physical-fitness test, which requires them to run ... 6 mph.

My teenager goes to a tech school and does landscaping. At 16, he's already having back problems. He is trying to figure out what he's going to do in his 40s because he doesn't think he'll still be landscaping then. But it is literally all he wants to do.
