YES. This is why I love genre romance. Guaranteed happy endings means the stakes are typically minimal, even when there is a lot of crying. There's often a lot of crying. 😂

Non-genre literature (including literary fiction!) is just as genre-bound as genre literature, with it's own tropes and themes and retreaded ideas; more so, in my experience. The highest heights of today's literary fiction reach no higher - and are often lower - than genre fiction.

ABA (Applied Behavioral Analysis) is the “gold standard” of “treatment” for Autism, and was created by the person as “Conversion therapy” (see Lovaas) with similar techniques and goals. It’s torture that continues to have widespread support and acceptance.

he never said arresting netanyahu would make him a trumpian fascist. that phrase was posted by an account known for using extreme rhetoric to accuse mamdani of effectively saying that as a result of him softening.

Ableism, anti-fatness, beauty standards were created by white supremacy, classism, and the patriarchy.

And maybe I'm wrong, maybe folks will disagree, but I'd argue that reinforcing those things isn't going to tear down the machines that created them. In fact, I fear the machines may get stronger.

But ableism has been getting worse since COVID (hell, the R-word is back); fat acceptance has been shunted to the side and really taken some bad hits; beauty standards always get worse as bigotry increases.

I know why people say it's ok, but all the "we can make fun of fascists for being fat, 'ugly,' and unhealthy" has me sincerely worried.

I fear we're about to enter an era of *breathtaking* anti-fatness and/or ableism and/or destructive beauty standards. Things have been getting worse for years.
