The next step in my silk shading module for the Royal School of Needlework certificate was to buy embroidery floss. I took a color photograph of my flower to the craft shop, instructed to buy more colors than I think I needed.

I thought I overdid it, but I later learned this was not enough, lol.

This is an extremely well written article - if you want to know why North Carolina was so ready to organize against ICE.

And how and why it goes beyond ICE.
NEW: As immigration enforcement continues across North Carolina, communities are mobilizing--inside and outside formal organizing networks--to protect their neighbors:
North Carolina immigration raids expected to escalate
As the impacts of the raids quickly ripple outward from Charlotte, North Carolinians are mobilizing to stem enforcement operations in their communities

I remember when there was a discussion on Twitter about Shein's manufacturing practices and some apologists invented all sorts of fantastical machinery and technology to avoid facing the more horrifying truth. Reminds me of this comedian's joke.

The next step in the Silk Shading module was to choose a fabric. And color was a big part of the decision process.

The brief allows us to choose from tightly woven linen, cotton or silk. I chose linen. (Cont’d)

spoke with the executive director of my local food bank today and got this really incredible line: "if you donate 1 can of green beans, we can give away 1 can of green beans. but if you donate a dollar, we can give away 6 cans of green beans"

The North Carolina Diaper Bank’s formula shelves are empty due to an increase in requests bc of the gov’t shutdown. They’re looking to raise $20k. If you are able to help, here’s the donation link. If your employer does matching donations, please consider donating there.

Another great thread from menswear guy. Don’t be put off by the prices for these particular coats - this thread is full of good info to help you shop at various price points.

But my personal tip is to thrift coats bc many decades old coats are way better than new fast fashion ones.
Fall is here and many of you may be shopping for an overcoat.

Let me show what you can get as you move up the price ladder. 🧵
Here are four overcoats.

— Which do you think is the most expensive?
— Which do you think is the least expensive?
— Which do you think provides the best value?

Answer below. Tomorrow, I will show what you get as you climb up the price ladder for overcoats.

Prep work for the silk shading module of the Royal School of Needlework certificate. An order of work, two tonal drawings, and stitch direction.

This helps us look very closely at our reference image and develop a plan for stitching.

As an editor I always hear a lot of: "Why don't you cover climate/environment/prison reform" and 99% of the time the answer is simply "because you don't click those stories!" Readers don't realize they are the ones who dictate all future coverage, and they do it every day with their clicks

I’ve had more than one mammogram tech tell me about the men who come to the breast cancer treatment center. (It’s usually a light conversation about height and the positioning of patients at the imaging machine.)

As always, healthcare should be a human right.
