Anyway, here's some weekend reading for you. Fantastic and inspiring story of a great artist operating on her own terms, well outside standard industry and hip scene paths.

doctor manhattan is literally an omniscient god and he is not hinting about Rorschach's manuscript. he is informing Veidt of the vast scale of the universe and that, from a god's-eye view, the things he has done are forever frozen in the moment when they happened and cannot be undone

I finally read that Peter Thiel essay about Alan Moore's WATCHMEN, and it's incredible that his actual argument is: "Moore argues that Ozymandias will fail because history defeats all world conquerers, and no victory is permanent. But maybe I, Peter Thiel, am built different?"

I cannot recommend this blocklist enough, it will save you from a world of dogshit.
joemuggs.bsky.social
waheyyyy, this list has saved me SO much pain

is that the person that was JUNIPER on Twxttxr? If so she has always been a very, VERY brown shade of red

Ahhh yes there it is.

Just Fash, really.

I sit down in my BlueSky captain's chair and furrow my brow authoritatively.

"Damage report, Mister Scott."

"Ma'am, the Nazi gumbo meme has breached containment and..."

"I've heard enough. Load the torpedoes, set phasers to kill, and burn the planet. No survivors."

"Aye, captain."

Hmmm it was treated as specialist programming though and tucked away, I mean something with star power and treated as prime time asset.

BBC Click was pretty much the new Tomorrow's World. It was excellent, and ran for 25 years until it was inexplicably cancelled earlier this year.

As I mentioned in the Kayla interview on BMTatR, I've rarely been happier DJing than this moment when I got to warm up for Alex Paterson in the foyer of the Cube Cinema in Bristol. Can you IMAGINE?

Fascinated how the guy who made superstars of Matt Walsh, Candace Owens, Jordan Peterson, and Michael Knowles thought that unfettered racism and every phobia in existence wouldn't eventually include anti-semitism
Ben Shapiro warns that conspiratorial right is taking over social media

Both outstanding suggestions.

Actually I reckon it needs a young, super sharp, aspirational male presenter on the team, someone who can talk to the crypto-bro generation eye-to-eye but is genuinely into the science. The anti-Stephen Bartlett as it were.

A younger JME, for example would be it 💯

In which case, an ex-Blue Peter presenter or some similar some such - say, Lindsey or Radzi...

All of the above, but with a single caveat: Kieran Prendeville is brought in and tarred/feathered in E01 for misleading the public about the durability of the CD format.

Illustrates that science is imperfect, ever-evolving and has real world consequences.
joemuggs.bsky.social
Yep.

I can hear all the commissioner objections already "people get their information off the internet" (errrrr, and see what good that's done for us), "we'd always be paying catch-up" (errrrr, NO you SET the fucking agenda) etc.

In post-truth era, the public service aspect alone is inarguable.

I wonder if less people would have been rinsed of their money if TW had done a piece on NFTs and meme coin
joemuggs.bsky.social
Who should present it? Hannah Fry nailed on I reckon. Dara O'Brain would be great, as would Maggie Aderin-Pocock but it needs young blood. An enquiring layperson, someone with (pre-immigration rant 😭) Rylan energy.

Modest proposal:

BBC BRING BACK 'TOMORROW'S WORLD'.

Science, tech, environment reporting are woeful currently. Something that blasts excitement about what a golden age we're in of discovery (vaccines, computing, space exploration etc etc) but can also be a trojan horse for warnings on climate etc

This is the magic recipe of the American electorate for the 21st century so far. Roughly speaking 30% of voters are committed R, 30% are committed D, 30% are swing voters who can actually be persuaded one way or the other, and 10% are fucking random number generators.

Campaign as hard as you want, give as good of a debate performance as you want, run on the best record you possibly can, your fate is still always going to be in the hands of a guy who decided his vote based on the color of his belly button lint.

SO many crypto bros lost their shirts yesterday after Trump's tariff spasm. There've been documented suicides already.

But a few MAGAs made a fortune insider trading.

What do you think it might take to make the ordinary gen z traders realise the game is rigged?

It's not that radical. These are all fading Silicon Valley stars who had run out of productive ideas & were making bad wagers on new tech- the GOP offered them the same billionaire wealthfare it offered the Earth Barons (those mining & carbon industry guys).
