Fair! You're right, of course, it should be a real thing again.

I'd vote for it being commissioned alongside a James Burke 'Connections' style series.

Look at music creation tech - Ableton Push, HiChord, the Orchid. Where is the equivalent of the 'ideas machine' for writers, storytellers etc?

And yes, I know that it's not for lack of ideas - the economics just don't seem to support it. But still. *So* much opportunity to explore here.

And, y'know, the links between the intangible things. Not just a standalone replica, which, because the links aren't there, is basically inanimate, so you're always bounded by the possibilities of the 'real' equivalent.

Social media can still be lovely because now I've stumbled across this, by @emily.news and it's excellent: emily.news/writing-app/

Reminds me of my rambling about better tools for story constructors: paulrissen.com/2023/01/02/i...

Once again, I am begging someone, anyone, in the UK media/arts/cultural /digital industry to fund this kind of thing.

This looks interesting, and incredibly up my street, potentially.

Anyone know anything about it or the people behind it? othelia.com

This is my favourite part: "Things that are linked in the real world, fail to exercise hypertext depicting those real world links in a way that’s amenable to either computers or people."

A fine early autumn afternoon. Why not take a break from watching the boats go by at a riverside pub and read these weeknotes from @anyaso.bsky.social and I?

What's with the apparent resurgence in usage of Garamond font? Are we all harking back to the early 90s or something?

Been thinking on F1 and I think their issue is they don't respect the younger audience or make any time to understand them

I do love (and am nicely proud at instigating this) that there are still RSS feeds for every topic, filtered by journal, at RESTful URLs for every Nature journal: www.nature.com/subjects/dna...

Ever wondered where all the Cheers title photos are from? I did. And I've gathered everything I can find into this post. That was fun.

.. I'm guessing that a lot of the communities from that time are also either a) much more disparate now, due to other commitments, and/or b) mostly on Discord/Slack etc now.

@adrianhon.bsky.social @suw.bsky.social (apols for butting in, but just to say: yes, and...) ... that whole scene of small, varied gatherings were *incredibly* formative for meeting folk, especially as someone just starting out.

Though I'm sure there was also plenty of negative behaviour too 😢

Thank you - and yes, aside from this, it was a meaningful day. Unfortunately we weren't able to attend synagogue in person, partly due to fears of exactly this kind of thing happening.
