This story is extraordinary even by 2025 standards. Marco Rubio, the nation's top diplomat, made a deal with Bukele and agreed to renege on informant agreements in a years-long DOJ investigation into MS-13, totally undercutting credibility of such agreements.

In exchange for getting to house migrants in El Salvador's notorious prison, the Trump administration agreed to give up top MS-13 cooperators, "a key step in hindering an ongoing U.S. investigation" into the Salvadoran government's relationship with the gang.

I am waiting to see whether the departures include any provinces not already boycotting the meetings. If not, this is just an attempt to rebrand an existing reality. If so, it might be worth some reconsideration, depending on the size of the movement.
