I deeply resent the current regime has me writing protest songs. It’s pretty good though, imo. You should watch the video and do the YouTube interactions (like/comment etc.). First song I’ve written on the baritone ukulele rather than the piano.

You missed a sinister aspect of the cottagecore thing, which is the way it echoes Nazi "blood and soil" ideas of a nation of sparsely-settled aryan peasant yeomen traditionalists (serviced by adoring tradwifes) in a deliberately depopulated zone of "lebensraum". Interesting question. I never played RQ enough to where it came up. IIRC there were a couple-or-three such options, and especially back then, play-groups tended to have at least four PCs, so if two of them were shamen or priests or whatever, it would be interesting. Maybe @avramg.bsky.social knows!

Dunno if you were ever a TTRPG person, but in the late 70s/early 80s, Runequest 2nd edition had some advancement options that required the PC to devote 47 weeks of every year to their occupational responsibilities. Literally blessing crops and healing sick-people type tasks.

I take the abbot’s point but I think there’s another aspect of “elections won’t save us” — elections won’t save us *unless* the people we vote in are equal to the task; that’s out of our short-term control; and between the climate crisis and the GOP’s fascist turn, short may be the only term we get.

What Fr Dowling is doing here was not just "offering communion to detainees". A full on Eucharistic Procession is a really fucking big deal. In Catholic theological framing, those folks were the honor guard with the very great privilege of escorting Jesus himself to the detention center.

I think ICE should be abolished. We should create a new agency focused on whatever kind of immigration enforcement we think is reasonable. But ICE needs to be razed to the ground.

For context: I was never on Team Abolish The Police. I thought that was silly, and way too broad.
