Old man sings at cloud.

I deeply resent the current regime has me writing protest songs. It’s pretty good though, imo. You should watch the video and do the YouTube interactions (like/comment etc.). First song I’ve written on the baritone ukulele rather than the piano.

As a lifelong pedant myself I am always eager for examples of its benefits
jimhenleymusic.bsky.social
The clip makes the pedantry worth it. Respect.

And beware the expansionist, sapphic back-to-the-land movement, lesbiansraum

You missed a sinister aspect of the cottagecore thing, which is the way it echoes Nazi "blood and soil" ideas of a nation of sparsely-settled aryan peasant yeomen traditionalists (serviced by adoring tradwifes) in a deliberately depopulated zone of "lebensraum". Pay no attention to the mass graves.

Never saw this before. I lolled
• Q: Recently there has been an article published in Rolling Stone magazine stating that 'Day Tripper' was about a prostitute, and 'Norwegian Wood' was about a lesbian. What was your intent when writing these songs?

McCartney:
We were just trying to write songs about prostitutes and lesbians.

So the questioner got it wrong. Interesting
jimhenleymusic.bsky.social
Interesting question. I never played RQ enough to where it came up. IIRC there were a couple-or-three such options, and especially back then, play-groups tended to have at least four PCs, so if two of them were shamen or priests or whatever, it would be interesting. Maybe @avramg.bsky.social knows!

Don’t I wish. If I were the founder of Antifa I’d have a girlfriend.

In related news, my beloved Mrs. Henley Music spends most of her time on Instagram and TikTok these days.

Dunno if you were ever a TTRPG person, but in the late 70s/early 80s, Runequest 2nd edition had some advancement options that required the PC to devote 47 weeks of every year to their occupational responsibilities. Literally blessing crops and healing sick-people type tasks.

You know who looks as naive as Mike Johnson looks craven? All the people who insisted GOP elites would “25th-amendment Trump” or otherwise push him out at the earliest opportunity. Instead they are doing everything they can to protect Trump’s Epstein and personal-health secrets.
jayapal.house.gov
Thanks to Mike Johnson, in the past 100 days, the House of Representatives has only been in session 20 days. And now, 13 days into the Republican Shutdown, they show no interest in negotiating a deal and are ending their vacation.

It’s time for the GOP to come back to work.

I’m still on team Elections Matter, but I certainly feel a combination of frustration and terror when I contemplate the performance of all too many of our elected Dem officials
jimhenleymusic.bsky.social
I take the abbot’s point but I think there’s another aspect of “elections won’t save us” — elections won’t save us *unless* the people we vote in are equal to the task; that’s out of our short-term control; and between the climate crisis and the GOP’s fascist turn, short may be the only term we get.
merovingians.bsky.social
the thing that annoys me about the 'elections won't save us' shit is that it's just a permission structure to wait for a powerful national social movement, and in their want a violent one, that *will never fucking exist*.
merovingians.bsky.social
winning elections is pretty much the only way to solidify the gains of social movements though. and winning them often enough that they can't be immediately repealed.

What Fr Dowling is doing here was not just "offering communion to detainees". A full on Eucharistic Procession is a really fucking big deal. In Catholic theological framing, those folks were the honor guard with the very great privilege of escorting Jesus himself to the detention center.

At this moment, anyone who tries to convince you that it’s a good time for any kind of violence is just wrong. There is nothing Steven Miller would like more than us being violent right now.
faineg.bsky.social
someone on the Internet who really wants to convince you to shine lasers at manned aircraft as a protest tactic “because they did it in Chile in 2019” is either:

1. a fascist fed, or,

2. so terminally stupid that they have become functionally indistinguishable from one

if a band member (it will usually be your boyfriend or someone who wants to be) invites you to a band practice, you say “no” in no uncertain terms, it will be the most boring 30 minutes to 2 hours of your life

NW: Slumber Party Massacre 2 (1987)
A rock band facing down an average 80s rockabilly.

The least believable thing is the guy wanting to go hang out for a weekend long band practice. Other people's band practices are probably the least fun you can have. It's the insidest possible baseball of rock.

I think ICE should be abolished. We should create a new agency focused on whatever kind of immigration enforcement we think is reasonable. But ICE needs to be razed to the ground.

For context: I was never on Team Abolish The Police. I thought that was silly, and way too broad.
meredithshiner.com
It’s impossible to overstate how much “abolish ice” is the normie position now here in chicago — just countless random moms at toddler soccer on a park district field asking me where I bought my anti-ice t-shirt. average people don’t like our neighborhoods being terrorized.
lauraolin.bsky.social
A friend ran the Chicago marathon today and said he couldn’t count the number of FUCK ICE signs along the way.
