It’s New Story Day! “The Little Deaths of Autumn,” my very seasonally appropriate short story about fungi, is out now in the new issue of Kaleidotrope.

(Monroe specifically attracts this attitude, because these people don't respect her as an actress or a human being, but that's a whole separate discussion.)

One of the many things I hate about AI is how it reduces everything to an (superficial) aesthetic. You can't see "Marilyn Monroe in Game of Thrones," even if (big if) Sora managed to perfectly recreate her, because you're not seeing the choices she'd have made as an actress. There's no substance.

FUTILITY is published in the UK today! Mega-thanks to @cathtrechman.bsky.social & @titanbooks.bsky.social for giving this story a platform to shine. I dedicated this story of rage & vengeance to myself because it let me freely express my own rage over a horrible incident in my past.

But to be clear this is what I would spend the large amount of money on with or without a curse.

Torn between "full size replica of a hillfort" or "weird fantasy movie with lots of stop-motion/puppet guys based off Medieval manuscript illustrations."
docseuss.bsky.social
lets say a wizard has cursed you with a lot of money. you are going to become permanently brain damaged simply by being in possession of so much money. the only way out of it is to spend a lot of money on something ridiculous and not at all useful

what would you buy to break the curse?

Let's talk about what the process of submitting short fiction used to look like, shall we? And about what it looks like now.

Sometimes there'll be a joke written by someone who's been dead for tens, hundreds of years & i'll stop and think about another human reaching through time to make another human laugh, long after they're gone, and it's so beautiful it makes me well up.

this would not be *my* immediate response to seeing a dead raccoon in my yard but the human experience is vast
a picture of a snow-covered lump that is purportedly a dead raccoon with a long rambling caption about how the coyotes around her house are indications of trickster energy and that this dead raccoon somehow symbolizes her growing psychic power idk

the Bajoran version of the Bechdel test is “do two named women talk to each other about something other than murder” and I love “Deep Space Nine” because it fails almost every episode

Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves. One for practice and the other one is the "main" grave.

Season 1 of this show is absolutely perfect atmospheric audio horror. I knew I was going to enjoy it, but I was surprised by how emotional, deep and genuinely creepy it was. It properly grapples with the themes of Dracula, not just the iconography, and is my favourite take on a sequel. Backed!

Jack Kirby: "I was raised in an area where you had a lot of gangsters. I know what gangsters do. Hitler's gonna want war. You start jumpin' around and giving him what he wants, he's gonna feed on your weakness."
MARK: So the capacity for great good and evil is inherent in everyone?
JACK: Of course. I was dating my wife at the time Hitler was coming on, and I did this editorial cartoon which showed Neville Chamberlain patting a boa con-strictor, and the boa had a bulge called Czechoslovakia. Chamberlain had just given Czechoslovakia to Hitler, okay.
And the boa had Hitler's mustache. I showed it to my boss at the syndicate and he says, "How dare a 19-year-old like you do a cartoon like that? What do you know?" I says "Well, I was raised in an area where you had a lot of gangsters. I know what gangsters do. Hitler's gonna want war. You start jumpin' around and giving him what he wants, he's gonna feed on your weakness." And Hitler wanted more and more until there was a face-off.

Of course Kirkman thinks Superman sucks. After all, when confronted with a comics creator who tries to cheat his co-creator out of money and who voluntarily works with Max Landis, Superman would probably throw them in jail.

I'm not sure why every iteration of the Gorn aside from TOS has misunderstood the original.

NuTrek make them fast mindless bigoted brutes.

But the Gorn Captain in Arena is slow and tactical, setting many traps. He speaks eloquently, calling Kirk out on principle, not race.
