It’s amazing how all the reporting is just memory-holing this part

the broad public does not like chaos and disorder and everything you can do to emphasize that it is the federal government that is responsible for chaos and disorder is a point in your favor. it’s classic nonviolent confrontation!

one response to this (correct) observation is to say “well, the cops will attack you no matter how you dress and behave.” that’s right. images of cops and ICE beating grandmas and kids in inflatable frog costumes is a win for the opposition.

one of the reasons they're so mad at "no kings" is that they thought they were going to get a different kind of protest. they *want* the black bloc to be out there fighting with the cops. those are the images they've been trying to generate from "go." instead--

MAGA Rage at “No Kings” Boils Over—and It Quickly Backfires on Trump
As Trump allies smear the coming protests, a good writer on MAGA skewers the absurdity of these attacks on large swaths of Americans—and explains why our best recourse will be to turn out in force.

this is a further sign of weakness, not strength, imo. It's not the red state publics that they needed to set off a general stampede. It's places like MIT. Turning this into a red state thing makes it _less_ likely to spread www.nytimes.com/2025/10/08/o...

Trump was caught on a hot mic arranging a meeting between a foreign head of state and Eric Trump, who runs the Republican's family business.

Isn’t this exactly the sort of thing GOP members of Congress used to care about? www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddo...

Ppl on this site are gonna be big mad about this, but I cant imagine anything that would boost Graham Platners campaign more than beating a well liked incumbent governor in a primary and I dunno why theyd not want to have him get a big early victory like that.

This is an impt think that I think ppl miss. Why a well earned primary victory is actually pretty impt for outsider branded candidates in particular is bc it demonstrates you've got what it takes to win a tough race. The main concern is beating Collins. If Platner can beat Mills, itd be a good sign

This is absolutely the best way for him to learn/practice how to run against Susan Collins effectively. He is new to campaigning - a vigorous, hard fought primary will be essential. And he will win :-)

New in PN: Stephen Miller's radically bogus idea of "plenary authority"

"Miller’s contention about ICE officers 'having to street battle against antifa every night' is objectively absurd. Courts cannot possibly be required to accept anything Trump says, no matter how disconnected from reality."

one of my takeaways from this great piece is that weiss just doesn’t…sound like an intelligent person? or at least, not someone who has thought even a little bit about how and why they think the things that they do. www.youtube.com/watch?v=gieT...

Once they leave their positions and return to academia, it is probably worth remembering articles like this when considering how to interpret the work of Makary, Prasad, and their ilk. It sounds very much like they're operating as commissars for RFK Jr. rather than sober scientists.

Reshma Ramachandran “said the sequence of events is the antithesis of how the FDA is supposed to function.

“What we’re seeing here is, ‘We believe this and we’re going to find the evidence to support that’ …That’s just inherently wrong in terms of how a scientific agency like the FDA operates.”

Current and former FDA staff said the level of involvement of political officials in nitty-gritty regulatory matters is unprecedented.

The people behind the inflated protests are performing a monumental service to democracy & peace in the US. The Regime wants riots, but these animal characters are not only an effective protest, grabbing attention & mocking ICE, they seem to reduce the risk of violent protests. It's perfect.

The Portland Frog army has now infiltrated Tulsa, OK and they’ve made an unlikely alliance with the T-Rex infantry and Sharks on Hoverboards mercenary forces.

This is truly terrifying.

Jack is right.
For every day that the shutdown continues, Dems should add another demand.
Trump won’t let the Rs negotiate. He’s deliberately trying to break our congress and make them irrelevant.
Trump needs to be impeached.

In any discussion of food and farming, unless your solution can be scaled to feed 8 billion people, you shouldn't be taken seriously. Unfortunately, cottagecore fantasies that would feed only the richest consumers, leaving billions to starve, are all too common.

Traditionally that’s the trade off — the cop proves their authority and then expects people to respect it.

ICE refuses to give us proof but demands we respect them as if they had.

That’s not how this works

I need a montage of famous cops in movies and TV shows flashing their badges and announcing their names, followed by a stream of masked ICE guys refusing to give theirs.
