The erosion of quality radio broadcasting has been a cultural disaster for the United States. The best idea we could import from the UK would be our own version of Radio 4. (Instead, of course, we got Piers Morgan.)
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?
I tend to carve an exception for things that are truly considered sacred. Like, I get why Native Americans might not be cool with burning sage becoming part of all that New Agey nonsense. But I do think people have become a little too free and easy with wit the label "sacred."

"I have now received the reviewer's report"
I don't know. I wouldn't kinkshame anyone for their paraphilia involving office supplies, but I personally don't indulge.
Those smug little eyebrows, though...
Just saw a headline about someone named "Flacco" and it should tell you what sort of person I am that my thoughts immediately went owl-ward.

J. D. VANCE: We need to end DEI.

MONKEY’S PAW: (raises one finger)
BREAKING: Pope Leo XIV is set to effectively disband Opus Dei in the coming weeks.

This would be the most sweeping internal reform of his pontificate — and a dramatic continuation of Pope Francis’s legacy.
NEW: Pope Leo Set To Break Up Opus Dei
If Pope Leo does indeed approves a plan that effectively dissolves Opus Dei’s structure, it would be the most significant internal action of his short pontificate to date.

I think a lot of people don’t realize how insanely pervasive and coercive the early 2010s “the only way to make it as a young writer is to publish insanely confessional, raw online essays about your darkest secrets and trauma” culture was.

Where we stand, in long arc of history:

-Story on left, adding race as a factor when that favors white people.

-Story on right, banning race as a factor when that favors non-whites.

I often complain about NYT headlines and story-play. But these are strong. Including "If Court Guts 1965 Law."

It's very normal to want your feelings to be validated by leaders when you are in the peak of anxiety but it is not in fact a political strategy.

Honestly a good idea and would permanently move BLS to the Fed. They have the capacity to do. And would allow employment stats to remain apolitical.
The Fed should publish its own estimates of employment statistics until the shutdown is over. They're still publishing all their regional bank data. Don't know why they wouldn't disseminate what they're using for decision making.

i don't have much of an opinion on what kinds of sex work should be legal, but i have a very strong opinion that journalism should not be a kind of sex work

Me: "...I beg your pardon?"
CDS: "Glossy, it is!"

Thanks to everyone who tagged me on this. I am in touch with NZ officials. I have called for an urgent inquiry into the real possibility that this is the monomaniac incarnation of all those malicious agencies which some deep men feel eating in them.

1)You may remember the articles criticizing liberal students for their hesitancy to make friends with conservative students—alleging that they were less open-minded than their conservative counterparts.

Wow. Trump's masked federal agents tear-gassed a crowd in Chicago and ended up gassing a bunch of local Chicago cops who were there to *deescalate tensions.* One local cop was captured on film washing out his eyes with a hose:
