Lots of talk yesterday about Stanford defenders with Kennedy Wesley getting a USWNT call-up and Elise Evans is someone who should be getting lots of looks from NWSL teams ahead of next season. Get yourself a Stanford CB and you'll be very sound defensively.

So apparently this is a thing, and this is a mess.

“CAF's ranking system for the runners-up took into account the uneven number of matches played in Group E, after Eritrea's withdrawal reduced that group to eight games instead of ten. To ensure fairness, points earned against the bottom-placed teams in each group were discounted before determining the final ranking.

That adjustment proved decisive. Nigeria benefited, losing only two points from their total of 17 due to their draws against bottom side Zimbabwe. Burkina Faso, however, were less fortunate, stripped of six points from victories over Djibouti and ultimately edged out on goal difference by Nigeria for the final play-off berth.”

I agree that changes need to be made to this tournament because this is too many games for the fall. But Mexico's top teams have proven they can compete. An NWSL team has been limited both last year & this year. And I think Canada will do better once they have a full league team.

Player rotation would be easier if NWSL also expanded roster sizes. With each team playing 4 more games next year 30 player rosters should have been a thing yesterday. There is also a discussion to be had about Concacaf (and NWSL) refereeing and player safety, but I digress…
