In Oct 2024, I was hospitalized. I have kidney failure and require dialysis, and it was months before I learned to walk again. Before I got Medicaid, I maxed out every credit card I have to pay for medical transport and groceries. Any help you can offer to pay down the debt is appreciated.

People forget the Nazis were giant dorks who managed to get power. The Ahnenerbe was founded because Himmler was a giant nerd who created his own fanfic of history and sent out a bunch of archeologists to make his headcanon canon.

This is huge news!
UBC has developed an enzyme that can convert donor organs to type O, making them universal.
Normally a using organs of the wrong blood type causes the recipient's immune system to attack the organ, leading to failure.

Museums not giving stolen artifacts and bodies back is bonkers. Like what if someone from China went into Arlington cemetery and dug up JFK’s dead body and took him and his eternal flame back to China and refused to give him back like that would be pretty messed up and kind of weird right like put John back that’s not where he goes but that’s basically what the British museum does every day

Just got a call from a lovely but very nervous Dr, who advised I wouldn't be routinely screened for breast cancer because I'm not indicated as being "biologically female" on the central NHS database and my biology wouldn't indicate I'm at risk.

My records have been altered, which is upsetting.

If you want a weird but true fact to talk about:

Dexter Holland, lead singer of The Offspring, was instrumental in this. His doctorial thesis in molecular biology was sequencing mRNA in HIV. The paper was also heavily cited in creating the COVID-19 vaccine.

I think that's part of the problem - how dry it is. It's why I suggested a Shadowrun style book, written from an in-world perspective and with annotations/comments to make it more interesting and entertaining to read.

Equal parts self-rising flour and full-fat plain greek yogurt. Mix into a dough, divide into balls, roll out, cook on each side in a bit of olive oil for 1-2 minutes or until it starts puffing.

It's not quite naan, but it's really close. Goes amazingly well with stews, curries, chili, soups...

Get that canned croissant dough, those little bite size cocktail smoked sausages or some ham, and some cheese. Wrap the sausage/ham and cheese in the croissant dough, bake as the directions say (give it maybe another minute). Great little snacks, not much work, and pretty cheap.

Brown breakfast sausage in a pan. Add 1 cup of rice and 2 cups of chicken broth. Add any seasonings you like (I do sage, thyme, and parsley). Bring to a boil, then cover and simmer for 20 minutes or until the rice is cooked. If you have leftovers, reheat with a bit of water or chicken broth.

Get a packet of white gravy mix, pre-cooked hamburger patties, and instant mashed potatoes.

Make the gravy, add the burgers to the gravy to heat them up, serve with the potatoes with the gravy on top.

Will be better if you make the gravy from scratch, but that's not easy for some people.

PainChek is one of these behavioral models, and it acts like a camera‑based thermometer, but for pain: A care worker opens the app and holds a phone 30 centimeters from a person’s face. For three seconds, a neural network looks for nine particular microscopic movements—upper‑lip raise, brow pinch, cheek tension, and so on—that research has linked most strongly to pain. Then the screen flashes a score of 0 to 42. “There’s a catalogue of ‘action‑unit codes’—facial expressions common to all humans. Nine of those are associated with pain,” explains Kreshnik Hoti, a senior research scientist with PainChek and a co-inventor of the device. This system is built directly on the foundation of FACS. After the scan, the app walks the user through a yes‑or‑no checklist of other signs, like groaning, “guarding,” and sleep disruption, and stores the result on a cloud dashboard that can show trends.
