Process breakdown of the STRANGE TALES OF THE SOUTH SHORE poster I did last month! It was a delight to work on, as working with Smog Town Prod. & Ken Amlin always is. Find Ken's instagram at @k___r___a and check out more behind-the-scenes fun from STRANGE TALES!
Strange Tales of the South Shore Poster (2025), Karl Parakenings

🎵 It's the most wonderful time of the year!
Screenshot of my Steam NextFest home page. Featured in the carosel is the game FEMBOY FUTA HOUSE, with a busty wolfgirl railing from behind, presumably with her dick, a mewling femboy making ahegao face.

Reminder (mostly to myself): the goal of a todo list is not to create a list of obstacles between you and rest when “done”.

The goal of a todo list is to get more done *than you would without the list*. Don’t measure against an arbitrary “done”; measure against what you’d accomplish with no list.
A peek at some tabletop design practice I've been doing between applications. I love Arkham Horror LCG so, so much.

so, the core of the dark object system is that every "game object" is made up of a bunch of properties and links. properties are just tables of data keyed by object id, more or less like all ecs systems have now.

but links are the really cool bit.

patrol paths are just plain old objects placed by a level designer at waypoints, and linked in a loop or a graph with AIPatrol links to show how the patrol should go. and a patrolling npc has an AICurrentPatrol link to the waypoint it is currently heading to.

You gently run your hand through the rack. You can feel it—pure cotton, rich wool, Irish linen. The plump buttonholes are handsewn; the buttons attached with a firm shank. You flip the price tag over. It's affordable

You buy the jacket and go home, which is only 15 mins away. Your apt is $600/month

utterly vomming at the amount of AI generated capsule art in the next fest. really gross, and a quick way to put many people off your game.

“the idea that AI is an inevitable, formidable force to be reckoned with basically amounts to propaganda for tech companies”
studio execs & major outlets claim AI is "inevitable" and poised to take over Hollywood. the reality is much different. i spoke with filmmakers, producers, and editors about how AI is actually showing up in productions – and what it still can't do:
Hollywood Has a Major AI Hype Problem

Take a few minutes to appreciate Drew Struzan creating the original artwork for THE PHANTOM MENACE. Truly a master at work.
i am also liking/reposting to my audience of 5 bots and a handful of old friends

Rich was a level designer on Bioshock 2, then Senior LD on Dishonored 1, then Lead LD on Prey. Hire him you fools
Looks like I'm looking for work. If anyone out there happens to have a lead or principal level design gig in Austin or remote, I'm all ears.

Believe old game devs when we tell you: burnout is real, it's painful. Be honest with yourself, take the breaks when you need them.
I've been burnt out for so long, I only just realized how long. I went from crunch at Iridium into crunch at Giant Squid with no break. About 3 years. It was too long.

Transness is not bourgeois. This is a wedge idea dreamed up by some gleefully amoral think tank lobotomite to split trans people and make us fight each other. That we relay on modern medicine doesn't make us any more bourgeois than someone who needs antidepressants or cleft palate repair.

Stuff like this is small but important. When I used to give talks at NAD in Montreal, I rarely talked about tools or process for making art. It was always focused on the psychological and emotional aspects of being an artist and how that applies to working in a studio, staying healthy, etc.
This advice is nothing new to a lot of folks, but may help some artists. If you're struggling to get into the flow for your project, start with the smallest tasks. Tiny fixes you need to do, setting up a scene, etc. For me, the flow starts after 20-40 minutes of working; so filling that time with

Someone at the TVL NYCC panel asked if the writers had considered "solving" the louis-lestat-armand love triangle with a throuple and the response was an emphatic NO (lol) and i have a take brewing that readers/fans are drawn to imagining solutions where writers are more about loving problems
