I read the piece. You shouldn't. He dismisses the "No Kings" protests as liberals in blue cities. He invokes Rosa Parks, as if rural white people in the 60s loved everything that the movement then was doing. "We need a movement but not this one" is a core centrist tact these days.

I suspect the functioning business model here may actually be to sell erotic chatgpt *to* onlyfans models, who can maintain the parasocial illusion with less effort. (they're already mostly subcontracting to developing world staff who are using AI for much of the chat)

How many people are paying ChatGPT if they know the money doesn't go to the sexy human model who flirts with them but to Sam Altman?

I don’t know how many people have actually internalized this, but the vast majority of local Democratic operations are staffed and run by blue-haired little old ladies who have been doing this for 40 years and are funding it with bake sales, and are keeping the flame alive in a time when parties are as weak as they’ve ever been. If you are under the age of 50 and you show up and act normal for, like, 3 months, they will do whatever you want because they’re so excited to have a young person there. Parties are weak right now because of some factors that are outside of our control, but a lot of factors are within our control and the big one is that we just haven’t paid enough attention to the atomic-level units, and party infrastructure. If you strengthen those, then party identity as a whole will follow. Party strength as a whole will follow.

Hugely important point in a great, short thread. We have knowledge, experience, and resources that earlier societies afflicted with authoritarianism did not. This all sucks, but if you've convinced yourself that democracy is beyond saving at this point, I gotta say, that's some bullshit.

WE ARE NOT IN THEIR POSITION. We are not the first state to face democratic backsliding, and contrary to popular wisdom democratic backsliding isn't irreversible even by a loose use of the term to just mean "very very hard"! We have examples- from other countries, and from our own.

One of the interesting things about ADHD meds is that the grapefruit effect affects them too. Just citric acid and ascorbic acid alone will mess with them

Which means, if a person isn't aware, their meds can have wildly different effectiveness for no clear reason, just based on their eating habits

The director of student media at Indiana University was fired amidst a dispute between university leadership and editors at the Indiana Daily Student over what content gets printed in the student newspaper.

As director of student media, Jim Rodenbush did not directly oversee or have any say over the content published in the IDS, per a charter between the IDS and the university. But he told IndyStar his firing follows a series of meetings with IU Media School leadership in which it grew increasingly apparent they were expecting him to officially prohibit students from publishing news.
