I hope mamdani wins as that would be a sever blow to corporate dems. But I also know that this is a temporary blow that can only continue if we not only get more politicians outside of the capital class but also encourage more of the general populace to do the same.

it does amaze me that people are willing to keep trying this method, and I'm not going to set myself up for disappointment so all I can ask is:

a) keep on him if he does win to come through on the goods
b) if he wins but fails to, or loses overall, we agree to do something else (revolution please?)

that is the bridge people need to cross:

what he's promising are good policies, but he needs to be held accountable on coming through on those promises

and an electoral victory alone is not a fulfillment of those promises, especially not in a system that will actively oppose what he has promised

He is absolutely gonna be sabotaged. I'm sure he'll do some good but ultimately he's ice skating uphill. Every system exists to stop these things from happening and to keep him from building the kind of momentum that helps grow power. Other politicians won't be able to point to the stifled success.

This is why incrementalism and changing the system from within fucking doesn't work, btw. You're bound by the rules of a system that will absolutely do everything it can to stop you from changing anything. It doesn't work because it *can't* work. Capitalists have no reason to allow it.

The problem with dem socialism, especially on a small scale is that it is surrounded, the institutions and other people in power are against you, you haven’t seized the rest of the levers, and capital still reigns supreme. They can also just leave or do illegal things and take your tax base

Basically all of his policies can be sabotaged by bad actors because capitalists are still the ruling class. For example, I can think of about 40 ways they can fuck over the city owned grocery stores. So I’m not holding my breath

I think this goes one of three ways

- (worst case) he doesn’t actually serve as mayor for some awful reason
- capital flight, lawsuits, Supreme Court and Trump intervention etc to make sure virtually none of his policies are implemented let alone successful
- he mostly doesn’t try do much

- city wide rent freeze and property seizure from negligent landlords
- successful and equitable city owned grocery stores
- minimum wage automatically increasing based on the cost of living and productivity increases
