The game here being they’re counting on these fines not getting paid, court dates getting missed, to give a pretense for deportation. While inflicting maximum inconvenience and petty harm.

Republicans are completely full of it on healthcare

How W. E. B. Du Bois responded to government policing of "anti-American" sentiment during the 1910s:

"I took great satisfaction in being able to sit back in my chair and answer blandly, 'We are seeking to have the Constitution of the United States thoroughly and completely enforced.' ”
Federal agents invaded even the offices of The Crisis and the National Association for the advancement of colored people and asked searching questions: " just what, after all, were our objects and activities?” I took great satisfaction in being able to sit back in my chair and answer blandly, “We are seeking to have the constitution of the United states thoroughly and completely enforced.” It took some ingenuity, even for Southerners, to make treason out of that.

Columbus Day is fascinating bc it was an attempt to lend whiteness to Italians in response to massive demonstrations after the lynching, & I find it quite symbolic that they did this by implicating all of us in Columbus’s crimes. It’s the gift that keeps on giving (derogatory)

I didn’t know that Columbus Day became a thing because of a large lynching of Italian immigrants, so I now agree with that guy on subway interviews, just change it to a different Italian.

Weirdly, this applies to a ton of colonialist figures - Leopold II, Lothar von Trotha, Valeriano Weyler, James Forsyth, Reginald Dyer, and I'm surely missing many from non-Western countries - whose misdeeds horrified people at "home" whom we wouldn't consider very enlightened by today's standards.

Which begs the question, why aren’t energy companies responsible for paying for this themselves. Especially when they will be making a profit at the end. We are paying them with taxes to eventually pay them through bills.

These are mostly indigenous communities in Alaska that have been slammed by the storm.

The local manager of a small airline fleet says he is the only one doing evacuations right now!

Defund FEMA and people are abandoned. Defund public media and no-one knows.

FYI, today is Indigenous Peoples Day.

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by ICE in Everett and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia.
A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

They want things made in America but to also be cheap. Which requires environmental degradation, slavery, child labor, indentured servitude, or all other manner of not having to pay for labor or materials.

This two-parter below is exactly why it's hard to make clothes in the United States.

Let's look at how much it costs to produce a button-up shirt in the US. 🧵
Someone on Twitter replies to me: "meh. buy american or stfu."

Two hours later, in a separate thread, the write: "$30 for a single button-up is ridiculous unless it is decent quality silk."

If WNBA players were to get 50% of of revenue it is estimated that would be about $250,000,000 in 2026, so that could mean (for example): 14 players per team, team salary cap set around $16.7 mil, max salary of $2 mil, vet min of $700,000 and rookie scale starting at $500,000 for 3rd round picks.

So Kilmer Abrego-Garcia will not challenge a deportation to Costa Rica, who has agreed to for him residency, but DHS won’t agree to send him there because it’s not cruel enough.

www.nytimes.com/2025/10/10/u...
For weeks, Mr. Abrego Garcia, a Salvadoran national who is married to a U.S. citizen, has made clear that he would not challenge his deportation if he were sent to Costa Rica, which has promised him legal residency and guaranteed that he would not be sent back to El Salvador.

But the Trump administration has refused to deport him to Costa Rica, and in an earlier hearing this week, Judge Xinis pressed the administration to consider the option or clarify why it was unacceptable.
