The support for Belgium's opposition to confiscation of frozen Russian assets coming from useful idiots, cynical opportunists, and outright Russian actors is vile.

Yes, if you give the money to Ukraine, other genocidal kleptocracies may no longer trust you. On no.

It would be awfully funny if authors like Jack Higgins, Len Deighton, Ira Levin, Frederick Forsyth, and others were actually bang on about post-WWII nazi conspiracies, and all the far right wing TechBro oligarchs were the result of some cunning SS long game.

Ok, that would not be very funny at all.

Don't worry, we get it, it's ok and doesn't make you less valid as a human being.

I would post something for our American friends about today's date in history and about the inadvisability of fucking with other people's boats, but I think that, given who is currently fucking with other people's boats, that might not be entirely called for.

AI is a lot like crypto. Fascinating tech, some cool use cases that will continue to evolve over time - although nowhere near the hype, lots of grift and abuse, lots of negative impact that we haven't yet entirely figured out, and loads of people weighing in with nonsensical takes.
The prime market for AI are people with too much money who think tech is the answer to everything.
A while ago I worried that fools and novices would fall into a thrall of AI, unable to adjudicate its outputs. I just didn't think that included tech billionaires

I don't like Marxian class warfare discourse, but we have a serious issue with right wing extremism and both societal and economic distortions engendered by extreme concentrations of wealth.

The activist radicalisation of Western oligarchs, led by Silicon Valley tech tycoons, is insane.
A Palantir billionaire just called for public hangings.

“It's time to bring back masculine leadership to protect our most vulnerable,” writes Joe Lonsdale.

This is where Silicon Valley authoritarianism is heading:

Football is boring and repetitive, tickets are too expensive, FIFA is evil and corrupt, the guy in charge is a fascist-felching chud, players are overpaid and fall down all the time, and there's way too many horrid dictators involved with it.

"Global warming" was probably the dumbest, most counterproductive term for it.

Even if global average temperatures are demonstrably rising, it opens the door to so many stupid objections.

Use "climate change" instead. It's colder where you live _because_ it's hotter overal.

Not only are we on our own, they're actively working to undermine us, our liberal values, and our civilisational diversity.
