it's also why commodities flatten society. it's why capitalism employs industrial tricknology: dialogue in fashioning a use-value is intrinsically higher complexity than packaging it up at the factory and sending it out to everyone. higher order functions are irreducibly more complex, even linearly.

Im pretty serious about doing my MA thesis on judicial caning in singapore-- maybe a forcauldian analysis of caning?.

My favourite ('favourite') back when I was working on that translation of Pinhua baojian was '便', which in modern Mandarin means 'shit' but in the late 18th century evidently meant 'thereupon'.

One thing that Fatima highlights is the tension inherent in the Catholic culture of apparitions.

永珍 Wing5 Zan1 ('perpetual treasure') is Canto-based; the Mandarin phonetics are way off
萬象 Wanxiang ('myriad elephants'): the Mandarin-based PRC name is a semantic match for the Lan Xang ລ້ານຊ້າງ ('million elephants')
