Working on getting more posting done, but let's do a quick intro! I'm Andy, I've been around the indie #TTRPG scene for a decade and change, with blogs at playerside.blogspot.com (a much older me) and ludicrusgaming.blogspot.com (a version of me with somewhat better ideas).

I once played a D&D session where the DM ran it like this for a whole party, and we used a battlemap for the area we had to sneak through. It was distilled boredom.

IT’S OUT! IT’S OUT!! I had the absolute pressure of writing for one of the doors in this wonderful game. If you don’t have a copy I absolutely implore you to check it out!

The Time We Have: A Conversation Between Brothers is NOW AVAILABLE

A tragic two-player zombie roleplaying game played on opposite sides of a closed door. A game about what it means to be a brother.

Want to learn more about the game? It's time for a megathread ⬇️
A mockup of The Time We Have packaging surrounded by floating door cards. The cover features two brothers sitting on opposite sides of a door with a purple flower motif

Well the first 15 minutes just hits like a TRUCKLOAD of bricks, whew. Really good stuff so far

LITERALLY the actual gall to claim that

Realizing that we used to talk about "marathoning" shows until the rise of Streaming Service Content gave us "binging"...and I know that's partially marketing but huh

That sure is a difference in energy

I started with World of Darkness, so technically I knew about that world from the start. But when it came to my paradigm shift, Risus (followed shortly by Wushu Open) blew the lid off of the way I thought about RPGs.

For tons of folks, there was that -one- game that blew the doors open and showed what #TTRPGs could be. The one that started the #IndieGame rabbit hole.

What was YOUR "gateway" indie #TTRPG? The first one that made you realize a whole other world was out there?

In theory I don't mind the idea of livelihood being connected to that art, but in this modern market the margins seem thin unless you get lucky, and require constant output to barely stay afloat, from everything I see. And that level of starkness is terrifying to me.

The first thing that popped into my head was "restoring integrity to the game state" and now thinking about the different meanings of "integrity" that are rolled together here

By which I mean that there is a school of rules interpretation that holds that the rules text is sacrosanct and presumably divinely inspired, and everything must be very literally interpretable without a play community or a willingness to figure out what the designer meant.

Part of me legitimately brewing a manifesto against the "sola scriptura" expectations placed on game rules

This. Time, effort, and a number of other factors all go into the pricing systems used by creators. Consumers generally only ever see the final product, not the hours and effort that goes into it. This is extra true of electronic content. An ebook or pdf is still a significant creative investment.

People get mad my ebooks are $2.99!

“It’s not *real*,” they say, like it didn’t take me at least a year to write.

People get mad my paperback books are $15, like it didn’t take me that time to write, someone to make the paper, print the books, pack and ship.

The huge numonopolistic corporations destroying lives to bring bad products at seemingly low prices has really fucked our perception of what it costs to run a business. Remember if you think something is affordable it's highly likely multiple people in the chain are being heavily exploited & harmed

Was just thinking the other day about how energy-guzzling AI data centers are able to exist despite the technology being wildly unprofitable, because of the immense wealth that some people are able to burn. Having that much wealth at your disposal removes the natural incentives of "this loses money"

Masking at conventions makes so much sense I don't know why we don't all do it. The chances of getting get sick at a con are so high we have a cute little name for it: "con crud." That its easy to get COVID at cons should come as no surprise. Why would you not want to protect yourself and others?

Baseball is the king of goofy happenings, there's a reason why "error" is an actual part of the stats! Every game is basically filled with random tables.

Wish granted, you can now buy it as cosmetic DLC

Alex has wowed me again and again. FtQ is the only game I've played where we did the "goofing off with joke character" to "deep dramatic drama" arc in less than three hours. This game just pulls that magic from people's hearts and lets it shine.
