There are plenty of valid accommodations people need, and we should do what we can to meet them. But I think it's ok that in a social setting, you may have to take matters into your own hands and say something like "hey, I really gotta hunker down on this. Can we talk another time?"

Look, don't do the whole small talk thing if you don't want to, but learning how to gracefully exit a conversation you don't want to be in is just a part of life. I think so many folks nowadays have taken therapy speak to a place of "you should have to cater to my idiosyncrasies."
