I’m a proud, card-carrying member of the anti-car brigade
Chicago W!
This seems a lot stronger than what NYC passed under 'City of Yes'.
Nooooooo :( Won't stop me either 😆
Hold up. Sales tax on gas will go towards transit? Dreams come true??
The law is to generate $1.5 billion in new annually funding for the state’s transit systems through:
—Redirecting sales tax on gas from highway spending to transit
—Using interest earned on state roads fund for transit
—Enabling Chicago region to increase sales tax by 0.25% for transit
I've ridden transit enough to know that the guy just needed a little space and the cops made that situation 1000% times more dangerous for everyone.
Drunk guy immediately gets agitated, situation escalates, cops start following him around the train, drunk guy starts yelling about being racially profiled, two more transit cops show up.
This reminds me of a situation that happened when I was in Seattle recently, heading to the airport on the light rails. Drunk guy gets on the train, he's kinda loud and obnoxious, but not bothering anyone. After a few minutes, a transit cop walks over and stands right next to him.
i think if you ride public transit enough you learn that most weird behavior is not dangerous, and conversely i think driving a car teaches you that everyone is trying to kill you at all times

hmmmm favicon.ico is larger than crouton.png?
And highways. I refuse to learn what “The Kennedy” is.
This is how I feel about the suburbs. “You expect me to know anything about Elm Ridge? Sorry.”
I must be not very smart or something because I’ve always put them in the in the toaster horizontally… but at least I knew they’re meant to be toasted I guess? I mean it’s in the name
NY City
folks, he's done it again
The choice is to slow down long before you have to slam on your brakes for a pedestrian in a crosswalk while fearing the car behind you.
Kill a pedestrian, or file an insurance claim. I can see why it’s a difficult decision
“I decided that if New York is the city of ‘hey, I’m walking here!’, Chicago is the city of ‘hey, I’m driving here!’”

Nailed it.
Agreed about massive traffic calming though
No, pedestrian yield signs are worse than useless. If drivers won’t stop for the stop sign then they definitely won’t stop for a yield sign.

8. American sidewalks should be at least twice as wide.
It seems bike score is weighted very heavily in this ranking, which is a...choice. NYC is the only city in the U.S. where the majority of households do not own a car.
What is this ranking? SLC above NYC? Denver above Chicago??
LETS FUCKING GOOOOOO

they're the ones who suck, why should i be the one to leave?
I'm realizing a grim exercise/prompt may be in this ...

If others want to share, I'm curious:

Why aren't *you* leaving america (yet)?

Asking for trans folks in particular, especially those of us on HRT and/or other very directly threatened in terms of our healthcare ...

Reposts welcomed. Sigh.
If i were 22, I'd maybe just bail on america. I'm 38 is the problem and I love my life here. My house, my gardens, my dogs. This is where I built my adult existence ...

This is just pure uncut fascist terror for terrors sake and it’s accelerating.

The republicans are at war against democracy and sovereign democratically held states and cities. Full stop.
Logan Square neighborhood, Chicago. Man wearing a balaclava in a white, unmarked vehicle, pulls the pin on a tear gas canister and tosses it in the road.

"Just trying to grab some lunch and these fucking losers showed up. FUCK ICE!"

I walk slower in a crosswalk, just to balance things out
