Today I stood with @rmtunion.bsky.social members outside Parliament to oppose the Government’s cruel Skilled Visa changes.

I've spoken with TfL workers facing deportation in weeks, this is a disgrace!

Solidarity with all the workers fighting this injustice.

"When we're working best as the Assembly, it's when we work together cross-party."

At our event with the London Assembly yesterday, @carolinerussell.bsky.social shared her experience of working across political divides under a proportional system.

In 1952 the Churchill government abolished ID cards, restoring personal liberties. Labour’s plans for mandatory digital ID, alongside restrictions on protest, threaten those same liberties.

Listen to the millions signing petitions in opposition, and scrap this Orwellian proposal!

Given the competing self interests of Polanski (make a fairer more sustainable world to live in) and Spectator owner multimillionaire Marshall (avoid paying taxes on hoarded wealth), I’m going to go with Polanski
zackpolanski.bsky.social
The Spectator (owned by GBNews owner Paul Marshall - estimated wealth of £800 million) doesn’t like taxing wealth fairly.

I wonder how they got to this editorial decision?

Let’s tax wealth fairly, fund front line services & make hope normal again.

GCs doing their thing, being utter ghouls about the suicide of a young trans person. Claiming a lack of news coverage as a victory for their cause.

Alice’s death got coverage because my family sought press attention to highlight the appalling state of trans healthcare.

As for saturation coverage…

“A very big shift. There was saturation coverage of the death of Alice Litman, very notably on the BBC. This is the extent of the coverage (so far) of the death of Leia Sampson-Grimbly.
Is guilt setting in at the media's role in telling minors they were born in the wrong body?”

Important we ALL look before crossing the road…

AND it’s also important that people driving don’t get distracted by their phone or break the speed limit and look out for people trying to cross the road too.

And anyone on a bike should look out for people trying to cross the road or cycle path too.

Sadly, in 2023, 49 pedestrians were seriously injured or killed while crossing in Hounslow.

Don’t become a statistic.

Look out before you step out.

Your safety matters.

Thinking of all those held hostage by Hamas who are being reunited with their families after 2 long years, and those finally being released from Israeli prisons in Gaza & the West Bank. I barely dare to hope, but we must - this must be the start of lasting peace & freedom for all

Getting rid of the flyover sounds great but look how much land was needed for the tunnel portal at Silvertown.

Do people really want this in the middle of Hammersmith?
Aerial view of Silvertown Tunnel site before tunnel emerged. Circular green observation tower already built. Silvertown tunnel portal as built. Two lanes of traffic in each direction. Circular observation tower in background. Huge gadh through the landscape severing communities either side of the road.

Strategically the same blocks in the system Gary Stevenson has identified on economics and equality are exactly the same for trans rights. Same gatekeeping.

The position of trans people in the UK has been described as a humanitarian crisis.

We know progressive models are proven to work.

‘Doublethink*’ alive and well in the U.K. Government.

Grateful the Mayor made time to meet Avi who came to watch MQT and look forward to hearing what improvements TfL can make to the care and support provided for workers whose future has been so suddenly interrupted by the changes to the skilled worker visa scheme.

It’s great that the Mayor is pushing government to address the impact on people affected by skilled worker visa changes, but he also needs to look at and improve the support TfL offers to these workers caught in an abrupt limbo as the sudden visa system changes kick in.

Loud, Clear and Unambiguous

🏳️‍⚧️ Trans rights are human rights.

And I love the idea of our cities, our country even, as an inclusive, intersectional sanctuary for everyone who is marginalised, minoritised, and racialised.

There’s work to be done.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

Thank you Caroline, heartening to see you raise this, as well as the positive & compassionate response from the Mayor.

A desperately sad situation for those affected.

I truly hope this cruel rule change is revoked, so that the workers can feel secure, welcomed & valued by the UK 💚
