Grateful the Mayor made time to meet Avi who came to watch MQT and look forward to hearing what improvements TfL can make to the care and support provided for workers whose future has been so suddenly interrupted by the changes to the skilled worker visa scheme.

It’s great that the Mayor is pushing government to address the impact on people affected by skilled worker visa changes, but he also needs to look at and improve the support TfL offers to these workers caught in an abrupt limbo as the sudden visa system changes kick in.

Today I visited the Woolwich Foot tunnel with Fiona, Greenwich Green. South lift broke down while we were there & north lift has been broken since 2022.I chatted with people in the tunnel & on the ferry (not always reliable). One thing is clear, people are desperate for a reliable crossing.

Great campaign from the @escalatenow.bsky.social team who got TfL to fix the escalators at Cutty Sark.

Now pushing TfL to fix the lifts in Greenwich foot tunnel built by London County Council 113 years ago for dock workers to cross the river.

When TfL was set up they got road not foot tunnels. 🤦‍♀️

The tunnel was originally run by London-wide government, but control was handed to Greenwich in the 1980s.

Indeed and behind the scenes, we at EscalateNow! have been writing to Newham Council about the Woolwich foot tunnel too. Suffice to say, neither council has been very helpful and this is why TFL must take over the management of these crucial *cross borough* transport connections. @london.gov.uk

I raised the devastating impact of sudden visa rule changes with the Mayor – over 200 TfL workers are at risk of deportation.

These are people who trusted the system, built lives here and are now left in limbo.

I'm glad the Mayor has committed to lobby the Government and support these workers.
