"The Balfour Declaration, a document of no more than 67 words, was not merely a letter from the British foreign secretary to a leader of the Zionist movement. It was a written authorisation to unleash a humanitarian tragedy that continues to this day."

108 years since the Balfour Declaration – a promise written in ink, fulfilled in blood
On 2 November 1917, Britain wrote with the ink of politics what it had no right to write with the ink of history.

"Please, please, please leave us alone" - Victoria Coren Mitchell to Graham.

I can only assume we're about to get a wave of articles about how Graham is actually the victim of Victoria's harassment of him.

Rachel Reeves crashed the FTSE today by hinting that tax rises may be on the cards.

The panic was so intense it finished up 13 points up.

Bet you won't see that on GeeBeebies or the Daily Fail.

This is yet another example of how you beat the far right. By beating them, not trying to be them. By having your own agenda, not aping theirs. With courage and conviction - and humour - not fear and timidity.

Looks like people do NOT like being fired, kidnapped, and starved
Looks like the Dems will pick up 12 seats in the VA House of Delegates, which will go from 51-49 to 63-37 D-R. That's an honestly shocking result.

Congratulations to Zohran Mamdani on his big election win in NYC!

New Yorkers have rejected the vile Islamophobia and racism that have been slung in this campaign, and elected a progressive voice that will advocate for their communities.

The hostage was filmed being RAPED by IOF terrorists.

His intestines exploded. His rectum was ruptured. Ministers, MPs and religious leaders praised the rapists. TV stations hosted the rapists. The public overwhelmingly supported the rapists.

Will Samir Zitouni the heroic train worker who saved the lives of passengers be recognised by Farage and his far-right propaganda machine GBNews? How about Badenough and Jenrick? Or are they far too disappointed he wasn’t the offender?

“The BBC is not an American broadcaster, and it doesn’t owe any obligation to shareholders determined to close deals and make profits. Its clash with Trump is a chance to show the advantages of being a public broadcaster by standing up for the truth. It should seize that opportunity.”
The BBC was right about the Capitol riots. In a sane world, Trump would be in jail
Trump faced impeachment over the riots, and in a world where Republicans had more courage, he would have been found guilty

Lots of commentary saying that it's not clear what the point of the speech is. Seems pretty clear to me. It's pitchrolling broad based tax rises in the Budget and making sure - as Reeves did with the fiscal rule change in 2024 - that it doesn't surprise the markets on the day.
Rachel Reeves' answer to @pippacrerar.bsky.social makes it crystal clear that Reeves is headed towards breaking a manifesto pledge on tax and how she will frame it - as a necessary response to "the world as it is" when the alternative would be more cuts or borrowing.
