I often think about how Cheney wanted revenge for what happened to Nixon, and how we live in the ruins made by that dream.

Dick Cheney did more than anyone else to build up expansive and destructive executive branch powers in the wake of 9/11; he lived to see another president turn those same powers against his own daughter.

He should be a warning sign to the GOP today but too many of them are in the cult.

Trump’s threat to withhold federal support unless voters choose his preferred candidate is coercive abuse of power. Federal funds aren’t a campaign bargaining chip, and democracy isn’t supposed to work this way.

hey uhh just to be clear they’re just trying to cull the population cutting SNAP, shutting down the govt, killing healthcare - the end goal is a silent genocide of the poorest least enfranchised Americans so there’s more left for them - that’s it, that’s the whole plan

it's time for journos to start asking Johnson meta questions

"Speaker, on 5 occasions last week you said 'I haven't seen it' when asked about news events w/big implications for public policy. Do you ever read the news, and do you agree it's problematic for the Speaker to be so woefully uninformed?"

Listen to Blaze Foley. It will do you good.

Bob Dylan said Blaze was his favorite songwriter. Townes Van Zandt said Blaze was one of the most spiritual people he ever met. John Prine covered his work. Merle Haggard tracked down every recording he could get. The public has mostly forgotten.

It was never really just about immigration. It was always about racism.
The slogan always should have been "Demilitarize the Police" because that's what they meant by defund them. We don't need any military in the city, but here we go.
“defund the police was a bad slogan”
Cops going aggro on Sunset near Echo Park in LA after the Dodgers Win. Shooting people with less lethals from point blank range, horses running people and press down. Literally minutes before, fireworks in the street

The thing about Johnson not swearing in Grijalva is that’s it a test for 2026.

If you think they will accept an outcome they don’t like, they will just Grijalva it.

So what’s the plan when the GOP says “we ain’t leaving, fuck you, make us.”

Because that IS what they are going to say.

The world's 10 richest people (nearly all from the U.S.) are collectively $500 billion richer this year thanks to growth in stocks tied to AI.

Meanwhile, data centers are sucking up communities’ water and electricity.

AI is making the rich even richer while everyone else pays the price.

Want to see a microcosm of America? Immigrants won the World Series for the Dodgers and immigrants will be unwelcome and hunted at the victory parade.
DJT trolls the needy.
The government is shutdown, and millions of Americans are about to go without food and/or medicine because of him.

So what does Donald Trump do? Keeps bragging about his $300,000,000 golden ballroom and throws a Great Gatsby party at his private resort.

He is so stupidly tone-deaf.

When people get all spun up saying, "Tr*mp is escalating. Things are about to get much worse!!!" No shit. He's using a predictable playbook. None of this should be a surprise. Which is why we organize to stop it. It's a race, y'all. Pick up the pace and we can win it.

Trump’s not reacting to a new crisis. He’s reacting to his political needs: religion as a rallying flag, fear as fuel, and war threats as a show of dominance. It’s all authoritarian politics, just dressed up as divine mission.

Remember: The fundamental issue isn’t the size of the government or how to make government more “efficient.”

It’s who our government is for.

Should it work mainly for big corporations and billionaires — or for the rest of us?

Obama’s point is simple: the bigger the show, the bigger the mess they’re trying to hide. When leaders act like gods flying above us, it’s usually because they’re failing to fix things down here.
