I'm not sure Behling is a full-blown neo-Nazi himself, though he is DEEPLY racist. There's a quiet schism among neo-Nazis vis-a-vis Christianity, given that Jesus himself was Jewish. The ones who cross that bridge tend to turn to paganism, right-hand-path Satanism, or esoteric neo-Nazism.

As for Behling himself, he might actually be a Christian nationalist, someone who believes that the U.S. was founded by and for Christians, and that Christianity should be the dominant culture. PF appears to pretend to be this for appeal purposes, hoping for chances to further radicalize the right.

It was a no-brainer for Patriot Front. Make themselves look like the more acceptable option, hand out literature to folks receptive to hating Satanists, attempt to recruit from whatever young white men show up on their side of the street, raise their profile with some free press.

That photo of Joseph Behling waving around that cross? That was taken outside of SatanCon, an infrequent event run by the Satanic Temple. Neo-Nazis take issue with left-hand-path Satanists (the ones interested in social justice) to begin with, and so do Christians! There were heaps of protesters.

Christianity, or at least the veneer of it, is central to the American right wing. If there's a wedge issue that fires them up, Patriot Front will occasionally adopt that as a way to continue ingratiating themselves (e.g. DQSH protests, anti-abortion actions, etc.) and as pretext to inject actions.

Patriot Front's entire thing is that they're an neo-fascist "activism" group with a membership composed almost entirely of neo-Nazis, that poses as American nationalists in order to ingratiate themselves to and recruit from the American right wing.

This is why the work of community watch groups is so important. It's not just capturing the faces of ICE agents, but also their vehicles. In Massachusetts we are already seeing them adapt and change their tactics in response to the work of community groups.

Please reach out if you have more info about Joseph William Behling of Manchester NH, previously of Hooksett NH! Allegedly “Marcus NH” of Patriot Front & the New England Active Club, and involved in Patriot Front’s efforts to recruit teens, Behling is potentially a serviceman in the US Navy.

The right sleeve has a pair of patches: the Christian identity flag, and an Appeal to Heaven flag. His right arm is extended outward, and he clutches a cross (with a figure of Jesus crucified upon it) as if attempting to ward something off.
