since dealing with depression. I had a bad stretch where I kept rescheduling and cancelling my appointments because I didn’t have it in me to be anywhere. The doctor dropped me as a patient rather than doing a check on me.

Thats when I learned doctors can do that.

Medical racism is a big reason why Black folks avoid the doctor. There are too many bad experiences with racist doctors & it develops distrust. Most of us have tales of medical racism. Then you get into community knowledge of all the times we were medical test subjects historically.

The way that our full identities are dismissed is exhausting. You see it when people try to separate Black ppl from the LGBTQIA+ community. Or when it’s time to discuss ICE. Everyone understands intersectionality until it comes to us.

So a couple people have now hinted at the idea that Black people didn’t have it so bad post-9/11 because Muslims had it bad. This ignores that there were and are a lot of Black Muslims. This also ignores that more than one group of people can be targeted for state violence. It’s never just one group

Marcus-David Peters was born on 15 Oct. 1993. While experiencing a mental health crisis on 15 May 2018, he was executed by Richmond P.D. During the summer of 2020, the Richmond community reclaimed the space surrounding the robert e. lee monument in his name.
