I've said it before, but it's worth repeating given everything happening now.

Survival is an act of defiance. Every breath, every heartbeat is an expression of your sheer force of will to endure and overcome. Keep at it.

I don't know what will happen in NYC tonight, but I do know that regardless of outcome, any number of public figures, celebrities, politicians and institutions that oppose Mamdani have done so with a level of rhetorical ugliness, racism, and dishonesty that should neither be forgotten nor forgiven.

Rejecting the premise here. "AI" is not coming for your job. Companies are dumping people because they are putting more money into AI investment, not because there is labor replacement via productivity.

Even in the Amazon announcement, Jassy backed away from the framing that AI took those 14k jobs.
Much like dictatorship or climate change, the threat of AI taking your job is no longer hypothetical. It's here, as shown by last week's bloodbath at UPS, Amazon, etc.

Should the government be sending us $1,000 a month? Is there any alternative to UBI? My new column www.inquirer.com/columnists/a...

"the genie is out of the bottle"

They are so desperate to normalize this as fast as possible.
All quotes I read from companies "embracing AI" are basically

"please just admit it's here to stay, just admit it, accept it, admit that this is the new normal now. It's here, JUST ACCEPT IT!!!!!"
Coca-Cola's annual Christmas commercial is AI-generated again

The company used even fewer people to make it this year

They fired every Black woman at Teen Vogue and every trans staffer.

It is astonishing watching the American media ecosystem just falling like dominoes, bowing its knees to fascism.
thank you for all the support; the statement from our union is now live here with some more reporting.

now that this is public I can confirm that the majority of today’s layoffs were women of color. there are no longer any Black women working at Teen Vogue.
And most of it generated through circular trading which, frankly, should be considered a form of fraud...

It's a huge pump and dump scheme. The people on the top will walk away with a huge payday. Most of the rest of the economy will be left holding the bag when the bubble explodes

This is some disturbing ICE Gestapo footage. They point guns at citizens and threaten to shoot them. They punch a guy in the back of the head repeatedly when he’s down and already subdued, then later slam his head into the side of their vehicle.

This took place on 10/31/2025 in Evanston, IL.

Well, an acquaintance who relies on the ACA marketplace for insurance just received a notice explaining that their fee for coverage will be rising. Right now they pay $180 a month. The new price?

$2733.15 a month.
Please keep in mind that, even if this administration eventually ends, almost no new administration has *ever* given up power/practices that the previous administration has taken for itself...
Couple of small pieces of fried chicken left over from a few days ago. Not enough for a meal for one person, let alone two.

Soup time. Chicken, stock, herbs, spices, dried parsley and chives, the last cup of white wine from an open bottle, and some dried tortellini

Not bad for a chilly day

From an Evanston resident filming an arrest at Oakton/Asbury ~an hour ago:

"He was being very violent with her, I said ‘You got to stop that,’ and he said, ‘Step back or I’ll fucking shoot you.‘ I step back, and then I continue to record, at which point he turned around and pointed a gun at me.”
This man is such a fucking idiot.

They're doing interment camps now. Fucking hell.
BREAKING: Inspired by Trump, Utah moves forward with plan to force homeless people into detention camps.

“It’s what they did in World War II in Japanese detention camps--similar to rounding up Jews or other people Nazis didn’t like.” @jesserbnwtz.bsky.social

Republicans are explicitly saying they will deny food to 40+ million unless Democrats agree to end healthcare insurance for 20+ million.

This is, historically, one of the ways that empires fall

Rome had the sense to provide bread and circuses. That worked, for a while

Multiple dynasties in China have fallen for the same reason

The list goes on

Stay safe out there, folks. And help each other where you can. We're in this together
And it will only take about a week.

People on the edge don't have huge stores of food. They (kind of) have enough to get through a month with what they're given.

Rule of threes - 3 minutes without air. 3 days without water. 3 weeks without food (but unrest will start after about 3 days)
I realize that the republicans are hoping for riots so they can declare martial law and never leave it, but I don't think they understand what would actually happen.

If the *over 10%* of the population on SNAP does not get food, you're not looking at riots. You're looking at something much worse
I agree with all of this except the unamerican part.

This sort of thing has happened so many times throughout the history of this country.

It's just that it's starting to affect white people too
Look at this fucking shit. In Chicago the "elite" CT unit of the USBP detained (a violent assault resulting in 6 broken ribs) a 67yo US citizen driving home from his morning run, then tear gassed a Halloween party with kids in attendance. There's no reforming this. It's unamerican and unacceptable
unflavored gelatin is the secret to elevate store bought stock (or in our case, Better Than Bouillon), by the way. Bloom a packet of it in a cup of cold water and add to ~3 cups of stock.
I tend to enjoy it. It was a pantry meal, honestly.

The vegetables and mushrooms were all dried. The wild rice is also in the pantry. The chicken was in the freezer along with a couple ounces of beef fat (I cube it up). Part of a bottle of wine in the fridge and a couple packs of gelatin

i cannot believe that “mamdani calls a close adult relative an ‘aunt’ even if they are not literally their parent’s sister” is what counts as a “scandal” these days
