Pretty sure #Trump is currently kept alive and functioning at a limbic level by using a witches’ cauldron of medications and dubious treatments that amount to trying to use a bunch of empty syringes to keep a balloon animal inflated.

Because of course she has.

I have extensive plans to not just aggressively not read it but to imagine it being sold by the pallet to be shredded for insulation.

If you leave one magazine job and go write a book, apparently for a major publisher, and you deliver your manuscript and take another magazine job less than a year later, when did the exile part happen, exactly?

After signing up for self-deportation, Emily and Deybis sold their car and moved to an unfinished basement. But DHS never sent them the promised plane tickets.

Now they worry about surviving winter. Weeks ago, they sold their daughter’s bed to pay rent.

Article excerpt: Emily said she made clear the family didn’t have Venezuelan passports but was told that wouldn’t be a problem; the U.S. government would procure any necessary documents for them. They said the operator gave them an Aug. 1 departure date and told them to expect their plane tickets by email.

Emily and Deybis sold their car and moved with their children to Columbus, Ohio, where Deybis’ nephew let them stay in his unfinished basement apartment until their departure. The plane tickets never came.

Then the nephew was detained in a traffic stop and deported. Panicked, Emily and Deybis said they called the toll-free number again and again, leaving messages that went unanswered. Emily submitted a new application and sent more emails. Article excerpt: ...They found travel agencies that offer to procure travel documents at a cost but said they were told the Venezuelan government requires an arrival date and proof that plane tickets have been purchased. Emily and Deybis can’t afford them.

“Thank you so much for your patience and we understand your frustration,” they heard back in another email. “Wait for new instructions from DHS.”

As they wait, they worry about how they’ll survive when winter comes. Most days, Deybis visits local food pantries and looks for discarded items in alleys and on street corners that they can resell. A few weeks ago, they sold their daughter’s bed to help pay the rent.

“We’d rather be in Venezuela with our family than suffer here,” he said.

“Humanity could still decide not to build it.”

Calling this in advance: my biggest issue with this book is going to be their complete ignorance of how humanity *decides* things.

Their theory of social behavior is built out of discussion-board debate club. Likely to be absolutely disqualifying.
This book is not full of great news, we admit. But we're not here to tell you that you're doomed, either. Artificial superintelligence doesn't exist yet. Humanity could still decide not to build it.
In the 1950s, many people expected that there would be a nuclear war between the major powers of the world. Given the history of human conflict up until that point, there was reason to be pessimistic. Yet, to date, nuclear war has not happened.

Gavin Newsom is a shitheel who should never be president, but the legislation he vetoed was unconstitutional, poorly written, both underinclusive and overexclusive, a severe privacy infringement for adults, and would have done nothing but cost California lots of money in court (to lose)

So it was either 7 inches long or somewhere just over half that length? Curious.

Himes: You know, it's the Pete Hegseth insecurity that requires a constant marination in testosterone and fraternity-boy macho bullshit that, at the end of the day, would be funny if it weren't both lethal and counterproductive to actually dealing with the nation's drug problem.

I don't have any inside info, and I'm not an expert, but Pete's paranoid and irrational behavior looks a lot like he's the one with a drug problem.

Remember when Stephen Miller claimed the Chicago apartment raid was on a building “filled with Tren de Aragua terrorists”?

Well, DHS has now dropped the number of alleged TdA members arrested in the building from 2 to 1.
Just one "verified" Tren de Aragua member and one U.S. citizen with an active warrant were among the 37, DHS said, without saying how it had verified that gang affiliation. Others taken that day, the agency said, were "illegal aliens."

Oh good, ChatGPT is getting "erotica for verified adults" later this year
We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right.

Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases.

In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing).

In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.
