My favorite aspect of the Columbus legend is him getting rejected by the Portuguese gets spun as them not recognizing the genius of his idea. No - he went into a roomful of expert navigators and made basic math mistakes, they thought he was a moron, and they wouldn't fund his idea on that basis.

I lived in Ithaca for several years and taught at SUNY Cortland, as well as making a weekly commute back to Buffalo (for 2 years yes it sucked).

So I covered a lot of ground around the Finger Lakes, upstate, and WNY.

So many great farmstands like this one. I miss stumbling on them randomly.

NEW: There’s a disaster unfolding in Alaska right now. And no major network is covering it.

The remnants of Typhoon Halong battered western Alaska overnight. Homes, with people in them, have literally been swept into the Bering Strait.
