Anyway, the most interesting thing (wch I want to follow up) is an ID provider based in Wigan spoke to the fact that ID exclusion in the UK maps to Reform voting intention - and that suspicion and misinformation was high. He called it "the next Brexit".

Excellent Guardian piece on Aadhar, India's digital ID system, that captures the dilemma extremely well. Digital-by-default methods create huge convenience for some, double-down on social exclusion for others, and it is easy for their scope to rapidly expand www.theguardian.com/world/2025/o...

Maybe this is a business opportunity

I said something to that effect and they looked at me as if I’d pissed on their grandmother

So not only do NDIS participants have to navigate the NDIS bureaucracy - they also have to navigate the competence of third party contractors accountable to no one.

Oh and managing THEIR DISABILITIES.

For all the students at the social work uni intensive who told me they now use AI at work to write up case reports:

NDIS participant’s bid for more support failed in part because two physiotherapists used AI to write letters used to back her claim to top up her package

Bid to boost $200k NDIS package rejected after AI use found
The National Disability Insurance Agency warned about cut-and-paste medical reports. Throw artificial intelligence in and the results are even worse.

World's media today will be full of emotive stories about the release of ~20 Israeli hostages held by HAMAS for 2 years. There will be no similar stories about the ~2000 Palestinian hostages to be released by Israel, many imprisoned for much longer.

Racist, much? That's x100 racist.

A few years ago Qantas completely screwed me. I bought fuckqantas.com and redirected it to social media search results of people expressing their frustration. I feel like now is a good time to do something more with it. What do you suggest?

Little shout out to my PhD student Joseph Alhassan, who is doing important research on climate impacts on farmers in Northern Ghana!

Punishing job applicants for something fully outside their control, like the decision of a company to hire them or not out of thousands of qualified applicants, is exactly the same as punishing someone for eg: how many people walked past their house today. It makes you a fucking inhumane monster.

Labor's employment minister rep admits that payment suspensions "cause harm", but they're "an important part" of the (unlawful) mutual obligations system, because

"At the end of the day we want ppl to get off payments and find a job"

gross 'best form of welfare is a job' stuff from the ALP here

"If someone has a payment suspension & they want to challenge it & they believe it's either unfair or unlawful, do you hold all the information that you need in the system?"

DEWR: "In some cases the notes aren't detailed enough for us to make a full assessment"

extraordinary misadministration

Funny seeing this in a document released under FOI.
It is very likely that eSafety's internal assessment and related correspondence will be
subject to FOI requests. We have sought to provide considered and consistent assessment
capable of withstanding public scrutiny.

"Centre for Public Integrity's Geoffrey Watson ... called for the exceptional circumstance test to be flipped and all hearings held publicly unless there was a good enough reason for it to be kept private."

Yup.

Pretty much same at ABC, but at least some recognition of Palestinians- Israel has scandalous numbers of Palestinians prisoner, treated exceptionally poorly

Fairfax posting pics of every Israeli released hostage - while released Palestinians aren’t allowed to speak to the press - is very lopsided coverage

Here's the ad the Australian government will be running from Sunday, 19 October ahead of the under-16s social media ban kicking off on 10 December.

The tagline of the spot and its information campaign are both "For The Good Of".

eSafety is also readying a "suite of resources" for the campaign.
