i can't think of a single bad thing about drugs that isn't better handled through consumer protection, manufacturing standards, environmental regulation and anti-fraud and anti-trust than criminalizing the manufacture or use of any particular chemical, qua that chemical

Do y'all have any idea how hard it is to feed salticids so small and shy they can be scared of springtails 🥹

You know what the answer is: your parents were bad at parenting. Probably dealing with trauma that they can't or won't address and passed that trauma on to you.

That's the worst kind of re-gifting and you can and should reject their perception of you because it is flawed.

Some of my photos of this species are likely to be used for the paper revising the genus, so that's fun 👀

🧪Did I really have time for this story? No, I did not, for reasons I'll be sharing soon. Did I absolutely feel compelled to write it anyways? You know I did! A viral mystery solved by science. Read on @sciencenews.bsky.social

Also, I have a new to-do for my trip to Chicago for #SciWri25 next month!
The viral Chicago ‘Rat Hole’ almost certainly wasn't made by a rat
Researchers used methods from paleontology to analyze the quirky local landmark, created when a rodent of a certain size fell into wet concrete.

I have decided that the proper name for elephant garlic is actually "dire garlic." Or perhaps garlic of unusual size (GOUS)?

how do we find out when certain CSS properties came into existence, who approved them, where do they live, and where do their spouses work and their children go to school
apophis.sapronym.net
jesus fucking christ

it's bad enough that i need to disable styles for so much stupid shit that needs javascript for no reason...

that's "for" in a post that was exactly 2 characters over limit, btw, not some weird use of "cruising" as a transitive verb

And just as an arms and armor guy - it's just not a good sign that his one-paragraph description of the hoplite panoply misstates the most likely material of the tube-and-yoke cuirass (linen, not leather).

But I'm not shocked - it's all 'technological determinism' anyway, right?

i bring more women kissing to your TL
an illustration by Spindle of the characters Asimov (on the right), a half-elf with white hair tied up in a bun, and wearing a blue dress (with yellow accents and a red stripe on the bottom), sitting and kissing Ottilie (on the left), a human with short brown hair tied up in a small bun, wearing a green cardigan (with orange circles print, and white trim), white underwear, and black thighhighs (appearing green due to the tones of the art). She's in front of Asi and leaning on her, kissing back. The kiss is tongue-style

Jacquard has been a HUGE help in writing a lot of boilerplate code for the next version of PDS MOOver. Write the XRPC lexicon schema files, generate the types and you got request/result types as well as a bunch of axum helpers.
some rust code

#[axum_macros::debug_handler]
async fn get_repo_status_handler(
    State(state): State<AppState>,
    ExtractXrpc(args): ExtractXrpc<GetRepoStatusRequest>,
) -> Result<Json<GetRepoStatusOutput<'static>>, XrpcErrorResponse> {
    match state.db.get_repo_status(&args.did).await {
        Ok(result) => match result {
            None => Err(XrpcErrorResponse {
                error: XrpcError {
                    error: GetRepoStatusError::RepoNotFound(None).to_string(),
                    message: None,
                },
                status: StatusCode::NOT_FOUND,
            }),

Still looking for places and desperately hoping my lead from the beginning of this month doesn't fall through on me. I'm honestly...not doing great this month. Trying to balance paying for a place I can't afford while trying to find a cheaper place is taking it out of me.

Looking for leads on Seattle area housing! Please hit me up if you know of a place that can accommodate:

- Two trans girls
- A very chill medium sized dog
- Lots of music / video gear
- Loud noises

Under $1500/mo is ideal!

the mosquito adult does not eat blood; she eats nectar, but requires blood to make yolk for her eggs. they do not bother extracting material from the blood for their own nutrition unless they are literally in immediate risk of starving, or were starved as larvae. it's just way safer to eat nectar

both "do nothing to your body & embrace traditional naturalism" & "view the body as a data collection that must be optimized in service of technology and capital" tend to reactionary views. transsexualizing the body being considered a threat by both tells you something interesting tho
