Your counterargument to a factual statement, in the absence of facts, is to say “it’s cringe!” and hope everyone else reacts like a 12-year-old? Maybe you should drop the irrationality and reckon with things that challenge your preconceptions. It’s okay. You can still say big AI deserves critique.

What he’s railing against is a profound shift in culture, status… He’s obsessed with the idea that America is controlled by a leftist “ruling elite” - but “elite” isn’t defined socio-economically or by political power, it means something like: Getting to define “real America” and who gets to belong.

FWIW, I don’t think the water argument is the most salient argument against Big AI, there are many more cogent and easily-supported ones. (And any argument grounded in power consumption has to reckon with the question of why we waste power on encoding 4k videos or the like.) But bad data abound.

Spoiler alert- it was a Catholic hospital. I’ve been reading stories about people being denied miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy care at Catholic hospitals for well over a decade now, and people have definitely died because of these policies, but maternal mortality data is imperfect.

The director of student media at Indiana University was fired amidst a dispute between university leadership and editors at the Indiana Daily Student over what content gets printed in the student newspaper.

As director of student media, Jim Rodenbush did not directly oversee or have any say over the content published in the IDS, per a charter between the IDS and the university. But he told IndyStar his firing follows a series of meetings with IU Media School leadership in which it grew increasingly apparent they were expecting him to officially prohibit students from publishing news.
