In their big beds in nice houses paid for with ministerial salaries? Just fine, I would say.
The problem you see is that there are only four corners to a house, so we keep going round the houses on it.

Immigrants are not responsible for decades of failed housing policy.

Hope this helps x

There's a conspiracy theory that the person who set fire to the Ipas centre was a resident because he was "in his socks" but the video shows them wearing runners with white soles.

It's desperate this has to be debunked but someone even posted this to Facebook to try to help the idiots understand:

“There is a question that hovers over Irish politics: what will the parties of power do when they start to panic about losing it? Last week, after their joint debacle in the presidential election, we got the grim answer: turn on immigrants.” - @fotoole.bsky.social

For Fine Gael, the small number awaiting deportation is proof inward migration has become ‘too high’

It's interesting that this is the exact moment the media has decided to fret the permissive boundary between it and centre-right politics. I suppose we are nearly as far away in time as we can be from any new special advisors being elevated from the ranks of the political correspondents.

For additional context
1) Over €100m of overpayments *was* recovered
2) 75% of the unrecoverable payments were to people who are now dead
3) the vast, vast majority of such payments are down to errors by the Dept, not fraud by the dead.
€15 million in unrecovered welfare payments. Wow, that really sounds like a LOT!

But. Take the total spent on social welfare to be roughly €25 billion annually - it's a bit higher.

That's 0.06% unrecovered. Or about 6c in every €1000. Or to put it another way, negligible.

Excellent letter from Wendy Lyon in today's Irish Times.
The brass neck of this man is astonishing. Only two Sundays ago he was standing over Wolfe Tone's grave banging on about how he was a hardliner for "a strong and effective European Union".
For those keeping count, Simon Harris "took to social media" to decry the shooting of Charlie Kirk the following day. He's gone cycling today, apparently.
'Member all the Irish wankers bemoaning "political violence" when Charlie Kirk was murdered - has anyone seen if they have anything to say about the attempted murder of women and children in the Drogheda IPAS centre?
No?
Funny, that.

If you’re out here wringing your hands writing articles about why a bloke who thinks immigrants get free cars wrote “cunt” on his ballot paper, instead of writing articles about the well funded fascists who ran a campaign aimed at that guy, then you have no business pretending to be a journalist

Tánaiste saying that 80% of asylum seekers are refused - just not true. When you take the independent appeals into account, about 50% of people are granted status in Ireland. He wants a "conversation" about migration, but he's starting it off with an outright lie.

Is this like spoiled votes where they need to be pandered to harder? Or are there some problems where the solution isn't "more racism"?

Would love to see a journalist ask Simon Harris if he still stands by his far right pandering on immigration the other day after last night's arson attack
Indeed, that's what An Garda Siochána called on people in a position of leadership and influence to do after the first night of rioting in Citywest last week.
