Musical numbers on Mars seem like the kind of joy I need in my books right now.
Thank you!! And I’m so sorry! I have been menaced by geese many times, but never outright attacked.

Many Drops Make a Stream is a queer fantasy adventure in which a shapeshifter vigilante must team up with a seemingly normal human on a rescue mission. Features memory-stealing blood mages, friendly rats, and at least one goose attack.

All of the toy-shaped mac and cheeses from my childhood (e.g., Pokemon shapes). The texture never came out right, and compared to how cool small me thought it could be, no pasta has disappointed me more.
a second day of the same discourse? no. no thank you.

instead I need you to name your least favorite pasta shape

I get fundraising texts addressed to every single member of my immediate family. They never stop.
I am way too online and still don’t know anyone who went through a nazi phase! This is weird!!
Before I could physically write myself, I dictated dinosaur stories to my mom and illustrated them with stamps.
I was thinking about early writing recently and I'm curious—short fiction writers: what is the earliest short story you remember finishing that wasn't for a school project or anything?

Same problem in publishing and film.

Everyone gets paid long before the writer, and then it's pennies on the dollar, if we're lucky.

People can't create like this.

We shouldn't have to create like this.

There's no product without us, yet we get told it's more important to pay everyone else.
“Average musician makes $12 a month on Spotify. The fact that they are not even able to sell a record and it’s taken from them by rich motherfuckers on streaming platforms who get paid royally by record labels,Ticketmaster, merch companies. They’re all fucking getting paid, except for the musician.”

you don't understand. as someone who isn't inherently good at art, stealing paintings from the museum is the *only* way i'm able to express myself creatively. i wouldn't be able to paint beautiful portraits. but by breaking into a museum and stealing the paintings, now i am
It’s such a relief when there’s an objectively hilarious news event like this
(Yes, I’m about two years behind on this, it’s amazing)
I love, love, love when a fantasy story’s biggest “wham” lines are totally normal sentences out of context.

This post prompted by The Wizard, The Witch, and the Wild One’s “I cannot say the same for my wife.”

ALSO. ALSO. Needing us to find Europeans who condemned him for his actions at the time--and there are many! So many! My God so many!--is also some white supremacist bullshit, because the TAINO PEOPLE HE WAS MURDERING CERTAINLY CONDEMNED HIM FOR IT AND THEY WERE HUMAN BEINGS OF HIS TIME TOO.
Christopher Columbus was dragged back to Spain in chains by a crusading knight, convicted of tyranny and immeasurable cruelty, pardoned by Isabella but banned from returning to Hispaniola.

Fuck Columbus.
I read Gailey’s “STET” during a snack break at work and was not ok for probably days.
Short stories as a medium are inherently scary because you never know whether you’re going to come out of the next ten minutes permanently traumatized.
Tell me your most unhinged literary opinion, as a little treat

I think every fantasy fan knows the agony of going to a used bookstore and finding they have only one book in a series you want, but it’s not the book you need.

At Daedalus, for the first time, the single book available in a certain series WAS the one I needed. So it gets extra bonus points.
See also this environmental storytelling of one bookstore’s humble quest to place all its Star Trek novels.
I treated myself to a visit to Daedalus Used Bookshop in Charlottesvile, VA. Reviews described it as “mazelike” and ”from an era when bookshops tried to pack as many books per square foot as possible,” so of course I had to go. Some of my favorite shelf labels:

I hope Leslye Penelope keeps writing historical fantasy for decades
