In the War on Empathy, I am choosing to fight on the side of empathy. Opinions are my own & definitely do not reflect those of my workplace. Given the bad faith actors on here, unless I know you or we share a mutual, I will probably block you. Sorry.

display name does not necessarily imply endorsement in case you're that kind of person going to @ me about how it's classist and eurocentric.

I am an academic, and my mood is frequently dark now, so....

LOL when you mainly listen to music written a couple hundred years before you were born this isn't necessarily an experience you have

what's the album anniversary that makes you feel old?

Mine is Green Day's Dookie turning 31, because I bought it with my own money after walking to the record store down the street before basketball practice when I was 11.

Late Registration turning 20; because it came out after college graduation?

I just remember Thanksgiving break when my niece was a good bit younger and the other relatives her family visited gave her a cheap plastic recorder and she took it back to my mom's house and tormented everyone with trying to play on it for HOURS

courtesy of something that came across my Pandora feed:

has anyone tried having marching bands with those plastic student "recorders," the more variable the sound quality, the better, for protests?

same. like there are folks talking about "but why aren't you Naruto-running at the concentration camps and getting yourself killed for your trouble, that's the only way to fix things" (you first, then, guy)

It's good to see Yarvin getting dumped on and then him getting all p*ssy and flouncing.

Good grief but the ones who think of themselves as ubermenschen are big whiny babies.

It sure shaped a lot of my worldview.

I would argue anyone with too much unbridled power/too many sycophants is going to be a problem.

I don't know why someone in a monarchy should get to dictate what we can or cannot say about our soi-disant king.

"No Kings" was *why the US got started*

I don't know why people have problems with it as a message

Call them what they are: concentration camps.

I hate this so much. Just the naked greed and quid pro quo.

the greedy and the bullies really have won, and the rest of us just have to live (or die) in their world, it's like the end of f'ing ancient rome

I remember this being in the news. Same year as Chernobyl. 1986 was a haunted year

my fear is it'll wind up like a combo platter of The Reign of Terror and the Cultural Revolution and I'll be offed because I have a degree or maybe even because I wear eyeglasses.

I've long said we should maybe have a Foreign Minister, a Home/Prime Minister, and then a figurehead head-of-state who like shakes hands and goes to state funerals.

No one person can be both good at foreign policy and domestic policy.

Today's the 959th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings, so obviously I'm reposting my scenes from the Bayeux Tapestry in Playmobil.

*shrugs* Either way I'll still be dead, the security forces will just become their own army and will slam the bunker doors on everyone else.

"I once met a former bodyguard of one billionaire with his own bunker, who told me his security team's first priority, if this really did happen, would be to eliminate said boss and get in the bunker themselves.'
