my mom's high school, which i would attend as well, integrated her senior year. and the same year the segregation academy i would go to until 4th grade opened. but yeah sure, these conservatives were "the right kind of conservative" lmao

as a kid i got told so many times by white adults that slavery wasn't all bad because it forced christianity on black people, and that allah and the "judean christian god" were different. we do not gotta act like these trickle downers weren't sadistic racists the whole time. we gotta grow up

also: i didn't grow up attending a far right fundamentalist church. i was methodist. mainline protestantism. and yet there were no black people there and i was taught all jews had to go back to israel so christians could be raptured. even the mainstream of american christianity was racist.

before i moved to public school in 4th grade i went to a literal segregation academy where there were no black people. don't give me that "my parents' generation was racist but they hid it from us" bullshit, they were open about it and proudly taught us to be racist! (not my mom, love you mom)

the young republicans were always the american hitler youth and you're not gonna convince me otherwise because i grew up around them. i called myself a libertarian until my late teens because republicans were so racist and i didn't know it was okay/not "sinful" to be neither of those things.

like i get it, i grew up in the rural south, went to church multiple times a week, went to public schools where the teachers refused to teach evolution, i know these people believe in nothing but revenge because they made it plain. you do not gotta hand it to the mythical principled conservatives

there are no "earnest small government and/or evangelical types," they just want other people to suffer because they think they deserve it. "small government" is a wafer thin cover for "black people and immigrants don't deserve anything and the government should be small so it can't make me behave"

My parents' generation was super racist, but they took pains to hide it from us. So a lot of young conservatives in the 90s and early aughts were earnest small government and/or evangelical types.

As I said, the overt racists and radicals had to form their own orgs.
