With Microsoft announcing their AI plans for future Windows versions, this /v/ comic from 15 years ago got a whole lot more relevant.

Honestly I think you can boil down the state of the entire AAA industry to the following too-common beliefs:

1) Old games are bad because the point of software is new technology

2) New ideas are bad because the point of art is brand loyalty

3) Given 1+2 all games must combine old IP with new tech
Folks are rightfully shitting on Capcom for the Resident Evil GOG stuff, about how they didn't want to re-release the old games because the new ones exist or whatever, but almost every major publisher, Japanese or not, believes the same thing.

Like I believe Sega's recent franchise revival stuff --

it's interesting how the statements "more worthwhile games release in a year than one person could ever possibly hope to cover" and "video games now take way too fucking long to make" are simultaneously both true.

you'd think they cancel out, but they somehow don't, at all.

I have met many AAA devs, extremely passionate and stupidly hardworking by and large, but they are, almost to the last, as averse to playing old games as the average gamer, and if offered creative freedom would largely keep making the same kinds of games they already make.

i think both the underground yuri/GL networks of visibility/scanlating/word of mouth/transformative+"doujin circle" fan work creation and the aboveground yuri/GL networks of helping support the mangaka and purchasing JP chapters/vols both complement each other in an interlocked circulation
okay they say the dodge and the dash are R+Square and R+Cross but its more like Cross+R and Square+R, you need to hit R 2nd or you'll get stuck in the block animation.

that's really fucking weird because Im used to R being an alt-key but that's kinda backwards.
I tried doing a quick CPU match after finishing the tutorial but like........ what, there is very obviously things the game didnt explain and I didnt figure out and im very very confused, ill need to look up guides and what actually pvp matches look like

I can't crack it! the in-game tutorials tell you how to do the moves but don't really give you any idea of how your actually supposed to be using them, how the FUCK do you play dissidia???

"Why do people get upset with remakes? It's not like they replace the originals"

Capcom execs: We replaced the original games, why re-release them?

btw when i say the devs were smoking that good and this game deserves to share the spotlight with the all time kusoge greats i mean it. this doesnt even mention that the final boss is a cutscene and you blow into the mic to run from battles

i genuinely understand why people think shmups and touhou are all about rote memorization i just wish i could communicate how deeply untrue that is. once you learn a stage well enough you can improvise in these strange, beautiful ways you would have never thought possible

I gotta say tho I hate when people say the religious imagery in Evangelion has no meaning at all. Yea I'm sure there's absolutely no reason that the man who falsely believes he's sacrificing himself for the betterment of humanity has a shadow that looks like he's bearing a cross

Jesus goddamn fucking christ is there anything ai hasn't fucked up completely
I just spent forever trying to come up with how to explain why I thought SA1 was different but you got it right.

SA1 is significantly more experimental and allot less consistent with itself between levels.
The way shadow controls is super underappreciated.
I know people love breaking the levels in Adventure 1 and but SA2 ironically has a very similar playstyle when you get good at it, it's just much more frequent and on a much smaller scale. Shmooving over little bits of level frequently rather than half the level at once in a few spindashes.
City escape for example:
Miss the homing attacks at the start? Get sent to hexagon platforms.

Didn't maintain your momentum from the first proper room? No running on the wall to skip the curved slope for you.

Missed the jump from the first rail to the second? Lose momentum idiot.
I'm of the view that adventure 2 has the best level design 3D sonic ever got period, and that's mostly down to its overall design philosophy of "obstacle hallway with granular results from varying skill levels", not just alt-paths, but simply punishing or rewarding you in the short term, frequently.

Petty enough to say that if you're (reasonably) upset the new Dissidia is a mobage/gacha, you shouldn't even download it as a free player when it actually hits. At least try to communicate your feelings to SquEnix in a way that matters.
