I have this theory that the AI-tech bro faction of the Trump admin thinks they can get rid of FLAS language training because AI automatic translation makes knowing other languages unnecessary. Which is nuts but here we are. It’s probably not that deep, I know, but it’s a hunch.

One casualty in the Trump administration’s war on higher education is federal funding for area studies. This harms students, scholars, and U.S. national security.

It also comes at a time in which political science and area studies are more compatible than ever before. Read on for new research!

Thankful for Gasa ceasefire, hope it holds. It can’t make us whitewash or forget the almost unimaginable killing, starvation, displacement and physical destruction Israel inflicted on Palestinians with full US support over the last two years. It’s insane and immoral to expect people to just move on.

“As Israeli troops pulled back last week to facilitate a deal that freed the living hostages still held in Gaza Hamas surged security forces in behind them—a public assertion of authority intended to make clear the group remains the enclave’s governing power.” Well yeah.

Key graf which will come back to haunt: “negotiating an agreement focused on the narrower issues of a cease-fire and hostage and prisoner exchange was more attainable than pushing for a grand deal that dealt with difficult questions.”

Here’s what the difference looks like between a neighborhood very heavily damaged by airpower and combat (left) and one razed fully by earthmovers (center and right, the signature IDF tactic since March).

Once the earthmovers have been through, the shadows disappear on overhead imagery.

Al Jazeera is doing videos of the Palestinian releases and they're heart wrenching. One man was detained for over a year and was released to find out that Israel had killed his two kids. The youngest was three. Her birthday would've been on Saturday. He'd made a small bracelet for her in prison.

I can’t help but think today about how many young people were savaged on social media, branded as anti-semites and abandoned by their schools for daring to call for a ceasefire. I remember saying that it was the first time I can remember that calling for ceasefire was regarded as a hostile demand.
