For those of us who advocated for a fundamentally different approach to consumer financial regulation for decades, one not based solely on buyer-beware disclosure BS - this is really painful. CFPB & some other Dodd-Frank changes were huge improvements. So much more financial predation will result.

A lot of good acting in HBO's "Task," but Emilia Jones who plays Maeve is pretty amazing. Scene stealer.

The Supreme Court’s majority right wing indicated in oral arguments that they think racism is over on the same day that the vice president defended the “I love Hitler” guy, and that the NYT reported that the current administration plans to accept only white, English-speaking refugees.

Indiana University cuts IDS print entirely, hours after firing student media director
By IDS staff

IU previously directed the Indiana Daily Student to stop printing news coverage in our newspaper. Upon pushback, the university fully cut print, including our special editions. The IDS was not involved in the decision.

Media School Dean David Tolchinsky sent the order to IDS leadership in an email responding to its appeal that the school not censor the newspaper. And the dean attributed the decision to “the campus.” He has not yet responded to a message for clarification.

Guy is giving more PR to October 18 #NoKings marches than anyone else. Should help set a record.

Johnson: "We call it the Hate America Rally that will happen Saturday. Let's see who shows up for that. I bet you you'll see Hamas supporters, I bet you'll see antifa types, I bet you'll see Marxists on full display, people who don't want to stand and defend the foundational truths of this republic"

I spent 5 years as a community & economic developer, 9 years as a fair lending & CD advocate, and ~20 years as a policy-involved academic. I’ve criticized (and sometimes praised) scores of politicians.

Have received plenty of pushback.

But have never received this sort of unhinged attack.

Wow. The Mayor of Atlanta's communications office sure knows how to do some off-the-rails ad hominem attack on Linked-In. Absolutely devoid of substantive response. (See reponse below)

It’s incredible that the VT State Senator wrapped up in this hasn’t resigned yet — every major GOP leader in the state has called for his resignation. Fixing democracy requires restoring shame to public life. And accountability. Lots of accountability. vtdigger.org/2025/10/14/v...

Just Andre Dickens’ apparent public enemy #1 (😂) here at the National Public Housing Museum to hear @brian-goldstone.bsky.social talk about his excellent, critical book.

😄 I think the answer is yes...especially when it's a semi-retired professor who landlords and developers don't particularly like either.

tbh, though, I am not a Dickens "hater" (might have more fairly said that about me regarding his two immediate predecessors). But this is horrible policy, so...

My dad (former carpenter) might ask the question, "Well did Mayor Dickens ever actually *build* affordable housing?" And tbh, I did volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, way back in the day - literally used a hammer & saw -- in addition to the community development finance job I had.

All so absurd.

Yeah, a mayor would normally assign someone to the dirty work; most recently they had their #CopCity lobbyist go after me.
danimmergluck.bsky.social
Thanks Mo. There is a whole lot of money changing hands over 25 years -- $100s of millions each year in tax increment. Bond counsels, lenders, developers, consultants, etc. And mayor has a lot of discretion on how those $ are allocated. My colleague @julianbene.bsky.social uses term "slush fund."

this is so nasty. I’m really sorry, Dan. I’ll add myself to the list of people who have learned a great deal from you over the years. If critiquing TIFs gets this much heat from those in positions of power, then you are clearly onto something important…

Damn, accidentally deleted the original post. It was just about how many folks were liking is ad hominem attack over on Linked-In, but then I noticed that many were either 1) city employees, or 2) PR folks, so not surprising.
