Brings back memories for me! I was always the first kid in the house to wake up and for some reason decided I might as well start or stoke the woodstove fire. (East Machias kid, here.)

Stoking the woodstove fire. 32° outside, rain forecast by afternoon with snow tomorrow. We slept in this AM. Usually up at 5 AM, today 6:30! Will put coffee on soon. Morning cabin chill already gone.

My boy is still not feeling 100%, but he's glad I'm back from my travels.
We're hanging out at the cottage this weekend and have a fire burning in the woodstove.
Honestly don't know what the prognosis is, but want to spend some quality time with him. Have one more short trip, then a break.

Thank you, yes! I have 48 on the ol' Fahrenheit scale, and it's raining. I have the woodstove burning and the dog and cat are curled up in front of it.

He and a second man [two different people, different locations in that same area], both in their 50s, both apparently alone, are going to need firewood this winter. Which . . . cold temps are already here. We're using our woodstove every night.

You don’t need a woodstove in the UK. It never gets cold enough and there isn’t enough wood left anyway

Theory: in the northwest of many countries in the northern hemisphere, the solution to being cold while in your house is to put on more clothing &/or to get heat from a fireplace/woodstove/space heater.

nothing highlights the dichotomy better than hunting tents (which i count as falling into the same category). all the backpacking stuff is meant to be lightweight and easy to use and well insulated and meanwhile hunting tents are out there made of waxed canvas with a hole for a fucking woodstove
