As much a price Perry paid for empowering stereotypes, there were many other Black actors during this era who held on to their pride and refused to do so -- and some of them paid a price, too. Among these are Paul Robeson, Fredi Washington, Cicely Tyson and Harry Belafonte.

Last year had the Tyson/Paul 'freakshow' element that draws in the almighty cursory's curiosity. That interest flamed out when the team did last season. Now, it's just a college football story, which is interesting, but not to the non-CFB watching people
