Morning all. Fresh bed linen was yesterday! Off out in search of a pot for this beauty. A Chusan palm given to me by a dear friend.

15/ So just to be clear: cycads aren't palms, they're not monocots, they're not angiosperms... they're way far off on the evolutionary tree!
Though commonly tropical, some palms can be surprisingly cold hardy. Meet the windmill palm (Trachycarpus sp).

It’s that time of year again when you look out of the window at dusk and think, ‘Oh, the season seems to have changed. When did that happen?’
Everything seems to be at least a fortnight ahead of last year with its dull spring. Not sure if that’s necessarily a good thing!

I posted this on @zackrose2.bsky.social page, thought I would here also. My dad collected gingko seeds in about 1995 and gave me four to sprout. I gave
him a seedling, one is at my former house in Vancouver WA, one died. This was the smallest. It had a difficult time but now... 🌱 #gingko

Flowering Hawthorn in urban Ashford for the #NewYearPlantHunt as well as numerous Trachycarpus fortunei seedlings under a mature tree which is producing lots of fruit. Thanks to @squinancywort.bsky.social for organising, lots of fun despite gloomy weather! Total of 33 species found in flower.

With the foliage in the background, including the Trachycarpus fortunei, it appears like this photo is taken somewhere in the PNW. I grow both Crinum and Trachycarpus here in my corner of the PNW.

I'm from the branch of Havishams that escaped the fash in '39. Wound up in flyover country. Alas, where I live only a windmill palm, Trachycarpus fortunei, might survive year round outdoors. Keep trying!

We have some glorious trees in the Garden. All are special to us but every so often one likes to show off! This stunning Chinese Windmill Palm (Trachycarpus fortunei) has had some beautiful flowers lately. Apparently it copes well with cold & wet conditions which is just why Dave Peacock chose it!🌻

Your garden is beautiful. I don't know where you are, but based on what I see, I wonder if a Trachycarpus fortunei might not work. They're surprisingly hardy, and it would likely be unexpected where you are. Just a thought. (PS this photo is from gardeningexpress.co.uk)

The alien Chinese windmill palm (Trachycarpus fortunei) impacts forest vegetation and regeneration on the southern slope of the European Alps
Our study in deciduous forests on the southern slope of the Alps shows that the non-native windmill palm (Trachycarpus fortunei) reduces native plant diversity in mesic–moist forests but not in mesic...

Wilde palmen! Hier een zaailing Chinese waaierpalm (Trachycarpus fortunei) bij mij in de wijk.
Vernoemd naar Robert Fortune.
Fortunei is zo'n naam waarbij elke uitspraak raar klinkt. [for-TUU-nee-ie]? [FOR-tjoe-nie]?
In ieder geval niet [for-tuu-NIJ], zoals ik een keer hoorde.
