Schematic of the methodology for the phenotypic analyses. Reflection: collection of reflectance spectra from three flower parts in 175 individuals. Pollinator perception: measuring predictor variables, values of reflectance spectra based on the stimulation of their photoreceptors. PC1 of the PCA of the stimulation data for all photoreceptors across the three flower parts according to each visual model. Brightness distance (BD) and color distances (CD) between flower parts. Pollination: phenotypic selection analyses combining different fitness variables, pollen grains deposited on the stigma or pollen tubes in the style attributed to pollination by either birds or bees, and predictor variables PC1, BD, and CD for each pollinator.
