I saw this view for the first time earlier this year on FB - I have to say it's my favourite because one can see Aotearoa NZ sticking up from Zealandia ❤️ (plus bits of Australia & Antarctica).

All this talk of penguins reminded me of the time I photographed some King Penguins during a trip to South Georgia, probably not as tasty as the chocolate variety.

I’m no expert in shipping but did organise yacht & Russian ship to go to Antarctica to clear up rubbish left by scientific stations. Most of rubbish was oil cans, rusting away - they were taken to Argentina to be recycled/re-used. Used a Russian ship as a lot of barrels were at Bellingshausen

'Two major forces, thermal expansion and melting glaciers, are driving this acceleration, Lin said. As the planet warms because of climate change, oceans absorb heat and expand. At the same time, ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica are melting, adding more water to the oceans.'
"A team of scientists led by Rutgers researchers has uncovered evidence that modern sea level rise is happening faster than at any time in the past 4,000 years, with China's coastal cities especially at risk."

'‘Greenlandification’ of Antarctica...

As the planet heats up, more ice will melt at both poles, & recent research shows that Antarctica’s ice caps, glaciers & floating ice shelves, as well as its sea ice, are just as vulnerable to warming as the Arctic'
