the bounty i still have on this laserdisc used in the reception of segaworld london that somehow survived after it shut and very likely remains out there somewhere is genuinely astronomical

Someday we won't talk about the NYT ever again, and Mayor Mamdani will turn their building into a publicly owned mixed-use oasis, and bring back SegaWorld, and our children will tell stories about "The Old Gray Lady who still cries in the hallways if you listen close late at night"

So SegaWorld was only open for three years? And they just happened to be the three years when I was at the right age to think it was the most exciting thing that could ever be imagined by a person?
In 1998, the (bad) Italian movie Cucciolo somehow managed to do something important: they shot quite a long sequence in the now-defunct SegaWorld London, located inside the London Trocadero. The park opened in 1996 and closed in 1999.
Here is the entire sequence.

I remember playing the isometric trackball game SegaSonic the Hedgehog in the basement restaurant there, unaware it was a rare prototype.

That and Dactyl Nightmare on a Virtuality headset at some point. (Possibly before it was SegaWorld?)

So not only was I lucky enough to experience SegaWorld first hand, we accidentally ended up there on a promo weekend where all the arcade games were free to play.

My 13 year old self thought he'd died and gone to tacky, tasteless heaven.

The largest area of SegaWorld was The Carnival, dedicated to both redemption games and kiddy standards like a ballpit. It even featured a McDonald's shaped like a box of fries.

Some areas of The Carnival in particular looked like Classic Sonic come to life - palm trees and all!

Alongside experiencing the Sonic Symphony in London, another amazing experience was to be able to see and be next to this particular Sonic statue that was a part of SEGAWORLD in the 90s.

Beautifully restored! 🥰
Thank you SEGA! ❤
