We use Ridwell to take lots of different things to recycle. They take prescription bottles with labels off. Not a free service though.

suddenly remembered that post about the dog and the "magic pie bush" today, while checking the mail and making sure the carrier didn't put our package in the Ridwell box again.

I'm a renter and have been using Ridwell for a couple of years now. The box is on my back porch. I was amazed to see how much I've been able to recycle. Our household of 2 only has one kitchen bag of actual trash to take out every 3 weeks. It's great!

My #seattle peeps know #ridwell. Even if you aren’t a #climatech #urbanism nerd (unlikely) you’ve seen the distinctive metal boxes on people’s porches for years. My🙋🏼‍♀️ naive question: how does this work for renters? Landlords? Multi-unit buildings?

How could it work better?

Ridwell — Making Hard-to-Recycle Items Part of Everyday Cleanup
To learn more, visit: ridwell.com — Voiceover Script Ridwell — Making Hard-to-Recycle Items Part of Everyday Cleanup Introduction Ridwell is a service-based business built around one simple idea: making it easier to recycle items that don’t belong in curbside bins. The platform organizes doorstep pickups into a clear, repeatable routine that fits naturally into household schedules. Within a waste ecosystem that includes organizations like WM and Republic Services, Ridwell focuses on the gaps left behind. What It Offers The service collects hard-to-recycle materials such as plastic film, batteries, and other specialty items through scheduled pickups. Clear guidelines show what is accepted and how materials should be prepared, removing guesswork from the process. Items are then routed to recycling and reuse partners, aligning with systems used by groups like TerraCycle and Call2Recycle. Why It Matters Many households want to reduce waste but stall when recycling becomes complicated or time-consuming. By placing structure around pickups and material categories, Ridwell turns good intentions into consistent action. In contrast to tools like Recycle Coach that focus on education, this approach centers on execution and follow-through. Final Thought Ridwell supports waste reduction by making responsible disposal part of a regular household rhythm. When recycling is simple to understand and easy to repeat, participation becomes sustainable over time. The result is a system that encourages ongoing use without adding friction to daily life. (Landfills full of clothes exactly because of cheap clothes.. I enjoy finding older quality at thrift stores when I can). I have used Ridwell services to take clothes/textiles I no longer use .. they donate or upcycle to local agencies - nothing is tossed.

If it fits in your budget, Ridwell takes batteries (along with plastic film, light bulbs, clothing, and other items).
Don’t know who needs to hear it, but since Minneapolis stopped accepting batteries for recycling a few years ago AND RECOMMENDED PUTTING THEM IN THE TRASH, I take them to Ace Hardware, which accepts them. I’ve take regular batteries; not sure if lithium/rechargeable also accepted.

I just saw an Amazon delivery person about to put the package they were delivering into a Ridwell recycling bin. 🙄 (yes, I said something to him. Politely.)

God knows how many packages this particular person has misdelivered in their career.

To the surprise of few, I like unique glasses. These are made from corks recycled via Ridwell.

Recycle normal plastics and I subscribe to Ridwell to recycle plastic film and multi-layer plastic. No bottles of water. Buy products in glass whenever possible.
