So, I heard the results of my biopsy today. I had no doubt that my chronic myeloid leukemia had come out of remission. My concern was whether or not it was in the blast crisis phase.

It's not. Unlike my first time, it's not yet aggressive. I'll be fine. I'll likely beat it even faster this time.

Good news from Merck & Moderna. Custom-made mRNA vaccine, now dubbed intismeran autogene (mRNA-4157) + Keytruda linked to 49% lower risk of melanoma relapse or death. My read is that these vaccines have real potential not so much for initial treatment but to keep cancer in remission.
Personalized mRNA Vaccine Reduces Melanoma Relapse at 5 Years
A customized neoantigen vaccine plus checkpoint inhibitor immunotherapy lowered the risk of recurrence or death by 49% in a mid-stage trial.

C'est certain qu'un diagnostic de cancer quand tu es pauvre aux USA est synonyme de prise en charge et de rémission. 💀
Waltz: "Denmark has ignored Greenland from a defense standpoint and they have ignored the Greenlandic native iniut people ... if you get a cancer diagnosis in Greenland right now, it's darn near a death sentence. Denmark has not invested in the way it should've over the years."

#ced #rheuma

I should be more careful to say 20-30% "objective response" which means the tumor stops progressing or regresses. That doesn't ALWAYS translate to cancer-free remission.

But oh boy are they a powerful tool in the arsenal.

Its almost been a year since I went into cancer remission, that journey was grueling and I'm still recovering from a lot of what happened, but I'm glad to still be around to see all my friends shine so bright 💛

A friend of mine is in remission from a stage 4 cancer (pulmonary lung MALT lymphoma). What she did was drastic: she cut all sugars & starches from her diet (keto) & ate only organic food.

Scary. 🙏Daughter had acute myeloid leukemia 2016 . Stem cell transplant put her in remission. Recently went on disability from her nursing job. The mass amount of chemo left her in constant pain which now is increasing 10 years later.

Fascinating look at how "spontaneous remission" of many cancers (only 76 documented cases since 1800s): are associated w/infections triggering immune response. "Make an infection near tumor" was documented treatment as far back as ancient Egypt. Preferred method (52% success rate) until modern era

Well: finally went onto the hospital portal to read my PET scan in advance of my followup appointment either my new “team”.

I’m not an MD, but it looks as if it’s good news (one area of interest shrank, and the other remains the same).

Not a remission or clean bill of health, but encouraging!

REMISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!

He’s been fighting this since 2014.

We will now be planning our own “Urlaub in Italien” when I get back to him in Heidelberg next week.

Thanks to those who’ve kept up with us throughout.

It improved for a couple of months, but it's back (it'll never be cured, so this is just trying to find the best way to blast it into remission for a few months at a time).

Well. Based on how people get cancer, I would say no. There is remission, but there is also a risk that the disease will take over again. So everyone who has had cancer should undergo regular checkups throughout their lives. But you may never get sick a second time. It's a matter of terminology.
