Mainly working on my relationship these days. 😍 Currently living in Chicago. Posting minimally/irregularly. Not a showboat; don’t care about “likes.” Hoping Bluesky eventually matures to a more serious space. Real-life interaction trumps social media!

The author just shy of 3 years old, as he was first being called “Dennis the Menace,” for reasons of egregiously antisocial behavior. And same first name, obvs.

We’re up in Evanston now and getting ready to head out to yet another holiday party (after 3 last night), so I’m “fortifying” myself from this bottle of Gruner Veltliner over the next 30 mins before we have to leave….😂🍷

@bedubble.bsky.social Archiving more of my old pics and came across this 1988 photo I took of the Huis ten Boom in Haarlem. At that time, the shop was still functioning and the public space was limited to the upper floors. I remembered that you were there earlier this year, so thought I’d share.

Michigan reality check: amused by those friends who reported their family gatherings were “blissfully smaller” due to the fact that winter road conditions meant that *some* family members couldn’t make it to dinner on Thursday. The “problematic” ones were the ones likely to miss, too. Peace reigned.

I’ve spent more time in Indiana this year than ever before. I’ve gotta say: the state and its people have slowly and gradually been winning me over in recent months.

More of this, please.
Indiana Senate Republican Greg Walker “said he would have reported the alleged violation to federal authorities “if I thought that there was anyone of integrity in Washington that would follow through on my accusation ..”

Just now back in Chicago and gearing up for the three (3!) holiday parties we’re expected to attend tonight. One more holiday “open house” tomorrow afternoon.

An introvert’s nightmare.

Make it stop.

I’m old enough to remember a CTA whose elevated trains’ windows opened because there was no AC. Same for trains generally. I loved traveling by train through rural Europe, including “behind the Iron Curtain” in my early 20s, and the aromas which swept through the cars. Including animal excrement!

On Thanksgiving Day, I’m beyond thankful for my friends here at home in America and those around the world. When health and life are in the balance, they have been my constant.

I honestly do not know how to adequately express my full gratitude.

Be there 💯 for your friends. Always.

Once upon a time, we featured an image of Magdalen's kitten, Ozymandias, in our newsletter. We figured it might be a gentle contrast to our regular diet of planning and local politics. The grey ball ...

Um….this has needed MORE space for years! You’ve got to be kidding that they’ve been further restricted this year?! I’ve stayed away due to the severe overcrowding so looks like I won’t be back again this year. Sigh.
Chicago’s festive Christkindlmarket may be in jeopardy after Mayor Brandon Johnson’s administration placed space requirements on the event this year, a move that organizers say has created long lines to enter and severely restricts the number of people who can visit.

Last week, I moved on from Strava. Today, we left our phones at the house before heading out for a ride into The Wild Winds and it was phenomenal. I know my way around West Olive/Pt Sheldon, so navigation wasn’t an issue. It’s next level freedom to just leave the damn thing and forget that it exists

Lying in bed awake at 4 am listening to the wind is even better when the person next to me has apparently switched off his snoring for once and I can hear all of the howling and waves crashing, etc. without nasal interference. 🤭

Life is 👌🏽this morning.

Thinking of Michael, one of my first boyfriends in Chicago, whose Boston Terrier gradually came to like me more than him. So of course we had to stop dating, because who could handle rejection on that scale? 🤣

One Thanksgiving during my childhood - couldn’t tell you the year, as my parents are both deceased - our oven died, and my parents were hosting dinner for at least 20.

The solution: call the neighbors! 3-4 of them helped us out that day.

I wonder: would that be possible today? I tend to think not.
