We introverts need to innoculate ourselves in the face of so much involuntary socialization!

I dress responsibly, including HV jacket and balaclava, and use a front and back light + rear flasher on my helmet. The concern which keeps me from more street riding is the simple fact that I see bad behavior leading to distraction on the part of the driver, any one of whom could then run me down.

Really sorry to read this. I just started running again while up in Michigan earlier this week, so I cringed a bit more to see that you were about to do the same. All the best for a full and speedy recovery, man.

One of my late father’s friends taught at Adrian College and we visited at least twice. Believe you on that walk score! I was raised in the GR burbs BUT my parents were public transit proponents and there was a bus stop nearby. By 12, I was going into GR alone and knew that I needed to get out ASAP.

THIS. My hometown is Grand Rapids, MI and I can easily get up there by train. Twice in a month is unthinkable, though.

LMAO. Of course, wintry days like today are THE BEST time to go to any Christkindlmarkt or other outdoor market. The whole point is to hang out with your friends/family and enjoy the food and hot drinks. The kitsch on sale is an afterthought and irrelevant. MBJ needs to step up and do better TODAY.

Lately, I have encountered so much rage directed toward me on my bike as I am simply making my way along a shared street while out running errands. It’s not getting better out there, unfortunately. And there are so many solo drivers in oversized vehicles that could easily take me out and keep going.

Same. I’m also very fortunate to be able to jump on a train with my bike on a whim and head off to explore new trails and back roads. It was a magical summer for me and I’m not transitioning well to winter!

By age 11, I had lost three kids from my “safe suburban” neighborhood to death-by-car. So I developed an early fear of cars and have never owned one of my own. I am now struggling to ride my bike on the streets of Chicago because I feel the likelihood of being killed out there is greater than ever.

I can’t: my extroverted partner loves this stuff. It’s part of our deal that I put on a brave face and soldier through. We just had a relatively quiet T-giving up in Michigan, so it’s only fair….
